Online education for control valve users Singer Valve, design and manufacturer of automatic control valves for the global water industry, is launching MetroH2O, a free online educational tool for users of control valves. Control valves for the most part have standard common features that MetroH2O shows in operation through animation. It is a free resource available at www. singervalve.com or it can be downloaded by request for standalone situations where Internet connectivity is not readily available. When a user accesses the Singer Valve website, MetroH2O is at the forefront showcasing 11 different

valves that are commonly found in city waterworks. By clicking on a valve, the user can see where the valve fits in the system and a further detailed animation of how it operates with pressure fluctuations, flow changes, level variations and pump and surge control. There are also specification sheets and operating guides for users that need to design, maintain or operate the valve. As an online tool, MetroH20 is scalable and will continue to evolve with more interative features and additional equipment that can found in a water distribution system. www.singervalve.com

New gearbox reducers provide accurate flow changing applications and to prevent cross-contamination of actuating hydraulic oil.

The Hydra-Cell P200 Pump

The new P200 Hydra-Cell Metering Solutions pumps from Wanner Engineering feature gearbox reducers with ratios from 60:1 to 5:1, for accuracy at a wide range of flows, pressures and pump speeds. Combined with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) electronic flow adjustment, the Model P200 pumps provide precise, accurate flow throughout the turndown range at up to 81.0 gph (255.4 lph) at pressure ratings to 350 psi (24 bar) for non-metallic pump heads and 1000 psi (69 bar) for metallic pump heads. The separate gearboxes also allow for versatility in

Wanner says the P200 pumps feature a multiple-diaphragm design that minimizes pulsations, producing smooth, linear flow without the need for expensive pulsation dampeners. The company says a replenishment valve in every piston assembly ensures optimum actuating oil on every stroke for continuous accuracy and the seal-less design means that there are no seals, cups, or packing to leak, wear, or replace. Spring-loaded, horizontal disk check valves and the seal-less design enable the P200 to handle viscous fluids and abrasive particulates up to 200 microns in size. Wanner says Hydra-Cell Metering Solutions pumps can also run dry indefinitely without damage to the pump and are available in a wide choice of pump head, valve, diaphragm, and o-ring materials. www.Hydra-Cell.com/metering

Peristaltic pumps for reliable wastewater performance International wastewater instrumentation manufacturer Smart Storm is now using peristaltic pumps from Verderflex as part of the wastewater sampler systems it manufactures. Verderflex says the pumps provide reliable and accurate performance which helps the Hydrocell sampler systems produced by Halifax-based Smart Storm to measure the volume and toxicity of wastewater effluent. Smart Storm needed a pumping solution which offered reliability, accuracy and the ability to lift trade effluent up to 7 metres, prior to it being measured and analysed, without a secondary pump being required. The company chose Verderflex R3DC OEM peristaltic pumps to fit the bill, as it is claimed these compact, easy-to-maintain pumps combine the required performance with a proven track record

gained in a wide variety of industrial waste applications. In 2013 Smart Storm embarked on a design exercise to replace their existing wastewater sampler with a product that would meet the harsh demands of industrial wastewater sampling. The new product, known as the Hydrocell sampler, included the Universal Smart Instrument (USI) as its instrument controller which offers a graphical user friendly interface and Windows CE programming. www.verderflex.com

Updated tool makes product selection easier Water technology provider Xylem has launched an enhanced version of its Xylect product selection tool. Xylect is a comprehensive product database with advanced search functions which can help customers find and select the right product for their application. The software brings together existing products from a host of Xylem brands, including Flygt, Lowara, Godwin and Goulds Water Technology. The new version of Xylect boasts a faster, more intuitive navigation function and streamlined workflow, making product selection easier. In addition, improved search functionality and analysis

capabilities ensure users receive more relevant results and product suggestions that will meet their requirements. With the Xylect website and support for iOS and Android devices, users can search by product type, application or by specifying the required flow and head. Xylect also offers an enhanced ‘Projects’ section that allows engineers to review previous engineering projects for reference. The new Xylect is available for free on the Xylem website, the Apple App Store and Google Play. www.xyleminc.com www.worldpumps.com
