MATERlALS Zinc-based stabilizers Non-cadmium heat stabilizers from Baerlocher include: Baerostab CT 9063 X, a liquid calcium-zinc system for white and light-pigmented compounds used in extrusion calendering, and injection moulding. It is said to offer good initial colour and colour hold. Baerostab CT 9071 TS is a liquid calcium-zinc system for flexible extrusion and injection moulding compounds. It is designed to offer good heat stability, colour and clarity. Baeropan MC 8204 NTCP is a solid, magnesium-zinc-based system for general purpose and automotive plastisols and calendered film requiring good heat stability and moderate heat ageing properties. Baerostab MC 8290 CR is a solid calcium-aluminium-zinc-based stabilizer and lubricant one-pack for calendering and rigid pigmented film. It can require additional lubricants and costabilizers. Baerostab UBZ 7971 is said to be a high-ef~ciency-b~iumzinc for flexible and semi-rigid clear extrusion, injection moulding compounds, and calendered film and sheet, It is designed for good heat stability and clarity. Solid and liquid zinc-based stabilizers Zinc-based compounds from Akros Chemicals include: SA 4876 which is a solid calciumzinc-based stabilizer used as a booster for both barium-zinc liquids and calcium-zinc stabilizers. According to the company, it provides a boost in early and midterm heat stability and lubricates without causing printabili~ or heat-sealing problems. SA 4893 is a liquid zinc-phosphite stabilizer and a booster developed for applications requiring crisp early colour control in place of barium and cadmium. BZ 4903M is a high-efficiency liquid barium-zinc material said to provide

excellent colour hold in calendered and extruded clears without a solid costabilizer. It can be used with SA-4876 as a booster. BZ 4921 is a liquid barium-zinc product said to provide exceptional initial colour and colour hold in white calendered and extruded PVC. Tin-based stabilizers The 77 series of stabilizers from Cardinal are
said to be well suited as cadmium replacement compounds. CC 7711 is a tinbased compound for pipe and profiles in white PVC. CC 7712 is similar but emphasizes long-term stability. The 100 series of non-sulphur containing tin compounds are also said by the company to perform well as cadmium replacement compounds. CC 104 is used in calendering, extrusion, injection mouIding, and blow moulding and is claimed to offer long-~rrn UV stability. CC 120 and C 125 are lubricants but CC125 contains more tin than CC 120 and is less effective as a lubricant. Contact: Cardinal Chemical Co, 2010 S. Beltline Boulevard, Columbia, SC 29201 f USA.
