(2) page 321, lines 8--11, should read: " . . . tissue. Denitrifier population densities are usually higher and the time required for a given a m o u n t of soil to denitrify a given a m o u n t of NO 3- is usually less in the root zone of plants than in bulk or fallow soil (Rovira, 1965; Volz, 1977; Volz and Starr, 1977)."
