FEATURE amazed that it is now the subject of computer analysis. About 15 or so years later someone suggested to me that we must know everything there is to know about O-rings and all those rubber seals so there would be no work left for us to do. Well R&D continues apace, and helps to prove the saying “The more you know, the more you realise you don’t know” I hope that you enjoy our features for the next twelve months.

Well chemical treatment utilizing plunger lift delivery system with chemically improved plunger seal

Device for fixing a seal to a vehicle structure

Patents Seal for low permeation fuel supply Applicant: Siemens VDO Automotive Corp. USA These two patents are variations of overmoulded fuel supply line connections, WO/2008/008294, in May Sealing Technology, designed to provided an electrically conductive path through the pipe connection. Variations of the designs of sealing barbs are described and potential materials specified. Publication numbers: WO/2008/024228 and 024229 Inventors: P. Athalye et al. Publication date: 28 February 2008

Valve seal for reservoir of a fuel delivery module Applicant: Siemens VDO Automotive Corp. USA This patent describes a valve that is specifically designed to be used in a fuel reservoir positioned in the bottom of a vehicle fuel tank that ensures delivery of fuel to the pump when the vehicle is started even when there is a low fuel level. The valve body and valve disc both have surface features, a raised bead, to assist sealing. Publication number: WO/2008/027061 Inventors: P.F Briggs and M. Nederegger Publication date: 6 March 2008 12

Sealing Technology

Applicant: ConocoPhillips Co. USA A method of improving the efficiency of plunger lift systems for enhanced oil recovery is described. The chemical seal for the plunger is created by a foaming agent which, when in the presence of gas and fluids present in the well, and agitated, creates foam between the plunger and the walls of the well. This improves the seal to improve the lift efficiency and also improves the distribution of treatment chemicals within the well. Automatic recharging or reapplication of the foaming agent can be accomplished. Publication number: WO/2008/024547 Inventor: D.R. Wilson Publication date: 28 February 2008

Caged floating seal assembly Applicant: Teleflex Medical Inc. USA A seal for a trocar assembly is designed to float within an outer cage. The seal is in two parts and can accommodate several instruments of different dimensions. Publication number: WO/2008/024502 Inventor: R.H. McFarlane Publication date: 28 February 2008

Applicant: A. Raymond et Cie, France This patent covers a device for fixing a seal to a vehicle structure. The guide slots, intermediate mounting element and snap fastening arrangement are described. Publication number: WO/2008/025430 Inventors: Y. Ranval and G. Chiorboli Publication date: 6 March 2008

Two-piece container seal and method of manufacture Applicant: Tech-Seal Products, Inc. USA A method of producing the seal in a screw cap for a sealed food or pharmaceutical container is described. The two part seal of compressible material and sealing layer is assembled using ultrasonic welding. Publication number: WO/2008/027029 Inventor: P.E. Yousif Publication date: 6 March 2008

Tabbed container seal Applicant: Tech-Seal Products, Inc. USA A method of manufacturing the foil safety seal of a food container that has a removal tab ultrasonically
