A r e c e n t d e v e l o p m e n t has led to t h e m o n i t o r i n g of v e r y l o w levels o f particulate m a t t e r w h i c h was d e m o n s t r a t e d t o be m o r e s e n s i t i v e t h a n c o n v e n t i o n a l t u b i d i m e t e r s for p a r t i c l e s g r e a t e r t h a n 1 m i c r o n , and an a b i l i t y t o d e t e c t c o n c e n t r a t i o n s well below 1 ppb. A p p l i c a t i o n s are b e i n g f o u n d in t e s t i n g filtered w a t e r , as w e l l as in m o n i t o r i n g p a r t i c l e s in h y d r a u l i c fluids a n d oils.

fibres, C o n s i d e r a b l e interest was s h o w n in t h e British C o a l p a p e r w h i c h d e s c r i b e d latest d e c i s i o n s on the p u r c h a s i n g o f filter fabrics f o r c o a l fired boilers. Freudenberg Nonwovens' c o n t r i b u t i o n l o o k e d at a p p l i c a t i o n s of n o n w o v e n m e d i a a n d the l a u n c h o f a n e w air filter g a u g e t h e ' M A C 5 0 0 ' , whilst a speaker from Foseco International described the d e v e l o p m e n t of r i g i d c e r a m i c fibres and trial results.
