Patient Education Videotapes Cataracts & Cataract Surgery (revised 1985)-$225 (11 minutes) This program explains what a cataract is, how it affects vision, and reviews modern surgical procedures for treatment. It is IOL biased and optionally biased in either ECCE manual extraction or Phacoemulsification extraction versions. Out-patient only or in- and outpatient versions are also available. Secondary clouding and capsulotomy are also mentioned as possibilities, and the myth of laser extraction is dispelled. The ECCE, out-patient version is also available in Spanish. The cataract program can also be fully customized at your office. Nd:Yag Laser Capsulotomy-$225 (5 minutes) This program explains the secondary clouding of the capsular bag and why it was left in place. The patient is reassured via patient testimonials and advantages of the procedure are contrasted with traditional invasive surgery. Secondary Lens lmplantation-$225 (8 minutes) This program shows the aphakic patient a new alternative to an old problem-good vision after cataract removal. It explains the surgical procedure for implantation of both anterior and posterior chamber lenses through the use of graphic animation. Postoperative care as well as the risks and rewards are discussed in a positive, reassuring but factual manner. Chronic Glaucoma-$225 (10 minutes) This program explains the concept of ocular

hypertension and emphasizes the importance of patient cooperation to protect their vision from this threat. Computer animation is used to explain how chronic glaucoma develops over time. Special consideration is given to glaucoma's lack of noticeable symptoms and its ability to cause vision loss before the patient is aware of the damage. The crucial importance to chronic glaucoma patients of regular visits to their ophthalmologist is stressed. Viewers are shown an array of most-often diagnostic tests with an explanation of their purpose. Both microsurgical and laser trabeculoplasty are mentioned. Finally, patients are assured that in most cases glaucoma can be successfully treated with medication. Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty-$225 (6 minutes) To help the patients understand their condition, glaucoma and the standard treatments for control are reviewed using state-of-the-art graphics and animation. It is explained that since the side-effects of their medication are too severe or because their pressure can no longer be properly controlled, having the Argon Laser treatment may reduce the need for conventional filtration surgery. Narrow-Angle Glaucoma-$225 (7 minutes) This program explains the causes of narrow-angle glaucoma and describes potential damage to the optic nerve should the patient experience an acute attack. It shows a laser irridotomy treatment and explains how this treatment can save any additional loss of vision. The explanation is valid for both VAG and/or Argon lasers. Introduction to Contact Lenses-$225 (8 minutes) This program covers the different types of contact lenses, how contact lenses work, and who can wear them. Patients are told that how a lens fits is more important than the material a lens is made of. Care and Handling of Contact Lenses-$225 (10 minutes) This program covers the proper method of inserting, removing, cleaning, disinfecting, and storing contact lenses. Emphasis is placed on clean lenses, clean hands, clean storage cases, and clean solutions. Three disinfecting systems are included: heat, chemical, and the one-step catalytic system. Corneal Transplants-$225 (8 minutes) This program explains the indications for corneal transplants, how and where they are performed and the post-operative regimen, and emphasizes compliance with post-operative instructions. Macular Degeneration-$225 (9 minutes) Central vision loss from Macular Degeneration always brings thoughts to the patient's mind that they are going blind. This program explains to patients what Macular Degeneration is, tells them they will not go blind (with the most common form of MD), and assures them that they can still lead active lives with their disease through the use of low-vision aids. Laser treatments are discussed, but emphasis is placed on regular check-ups and use of the Amsler Grid.

Diagnostic and treatment procedures such as laser photocoagulation, fluorescein angiography, retinometers, and indirect ophthalmoscopes are covered. Diabetic Retinopathy-$225 (12 minutes) Background diabetic retinopathy is discovered by an ophthalmologist in a patient who has not experienced any symptoms of vision loss. Diagnostic and treatment procedures such as laser photocoagulation, fluorescein angiography, and indirect ophthalmoscopes are covered. Emphasis is placed on preventing the progression of the disease by following the physician's instructions concerning use of insulin, proper diet, exercise, and personal habits. Proliferative retinopathy is covered and pan-retinal photocoagulation is illustrated. Vitreous surgery is also outlined. Retinal Holes and Tears-$225 (8 minutes) During a routine eye examination, a retinal hole is discovered. Although asymptomatic, the patient is warned of the potential damage by explaining how fluid can begin to seep behind the retina and can actually cause separation and vision loss. Both cryopexy and laser photocoagulation are covered as treatment modalities. Radial Keratotomy Informed Consent-$350 (17 minutes) Radial Keratotomy Patient lnterviews-$200 (15 minutes) Approved by the Kerato-Refractive Society, this program was produced and directed by an RK patient in cooperation with his physician who has performed approximately 11 ,000 RK operations. Revised in July of 1985, the program explains what myopia and astigmatism are and how they can be surgically altered. We follow a patient through the procedure and recovery period.· The information presented gives a balanced view of risks and rewards and allows the patient to make the decision for surgery to be based on fact about RK, not hopes or misconceptions. This specially designed program includes a written test keyed to the video presentation. This test is part of a unique informed consent form that becomes a part of the patient's permanent record, thereby documenting informed consent and assuring you the patient understands the risks and limitations of RK surgery. (1 00 forms are included.) This program can also be fully customized at your office. A separate "RK Patient Interview" tape contains five RK post-op patients describing, in their own candid words, what they experienced both during and after the surgery. Most physicians use the program to allow others who are considering having the surgery to, in effect, visit (in your office) with others who have already had the surgery. It is an excellent program to use at RK seminars or in place of giving out patients' phone numbers. Keratomileusis Informed Consent-$350 (15 minutes)

DESCRIPTIONS OF PRODUCTS

Keratomileusis Patient lnterviews-$200 (30 minutes) Similar in design to our Radial Keratotomy program, this presentation describes the technique of Keratomileusis along with its risks, possible complications and sideeffects, RK and MKM are compared to give the patient some understanding of the basis for their physician's choice of procedures. This program also comes with keyed test and consent form for inclusion in the patient's permanent records. A patient interview tape is also available containing candid conversations with four MKM post-operative patients. Epikeratophakia Informed Consent-$350 (11 minutes) Myopia, hyperopia, aphakia, and keratoconus are described as indications for epikeratophakia surgery. Computer animation describes how the procedure is performed. Risks, side-effects and reversibility of the procedure are covered. Emphasis is placed on postoperative compliance with physician instructions and patience with vision recovery. This balanced presentation of risks and rewards allows the patient to make the decision to have Epikeratophakia surgery based on facts, not hopes or misconceptions. This program also comes with a "consent for surgery" form and test to help document informed consent and patient understanding. Scripting of this program was done with the cooperation of American Medical Optics. (1 00 forms are included.) Introduction to Ophthalmology-$225 (18 minutes) Ideal for the reception room or public health fairs, this program covers the difference between ophthalmologists, optometrists, and opticians. Terms like myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia are defined. Elements of the eye exam are covered to show why certain tests are performed. Cataracts and IOL implantation, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, corneal transplants, and the new field of refractive surgery are covered. Radial Keratotomy: A New Way of Seeing-$225 (8 minutes) Both informative and upbeat, the purpose of the program is to motivate potential RK patients to schedule a preoperative examination to determine their candidacy for RK surgery. Similar to our Informed Consent for RK, but without the emphasis on risks, side-effects and complications. Blepharo Pigmentation Informed Consent-$350 (10 minutes) Blepharo Pigmentation Patient lnterviews-$200 (15 minutes) This balanced presentation of facts, risks and rewards of BPP surgery is presented to the patient without hard sell tactics. No mention is made of manufacturer's trademarks or logos. The program explains the procedure using graphics and special effects, and contains candid patient interviews. The patient is then tested on a consent form to insure you they understand the information presented. A second tape of candid patient interviews is available to be played in your reception room or shown to patients who want to

visit with others who have had the procedure. (1 00 forms are included.) Blepharoplasty-$225 This program explains who can benefit from blepharoplasty and what the procedure attempts to accomplish. Use of the procedure for cosmetic purposes in some patients as well as to restore functional vision in others is covered. The program emphasizes post-operative care and demonstrates potential results on pre-operative, not post-operative patients.
