Water ring pelletizer is suitable for low to moderate flow rates Beringer has introduced an in-line water ring pelletizer. The new machine replaces conventional cross-head dieflow designs with a straightthrough in-line flow path design that fills an industry niche for low to moderate flow rates. The company says that the pelletizer is suitable for use with a wide variety of thermoplastics at rates up to 340 kg/h (750 lb/h). Beringer adds that the straight-through flow path eliminates the 90 ° flow turn found in conventional water ring designs. This allows easy colour and material changeover. The flex blade cutter design removes the need for time-consuming operator adjustment. Strand

handling is eliminated, as pellets are cut at the die face. However, there is no die hole freeze-off because water does not contact the die face. The unit is claimed to be in a space-saving small footprint design. The units include die plate, cutting chamber, cutter motor with shaft-mounted blade holder, cascade (slurry sluice), dewatering unit, spin dryer, water tank with circulating pump and control panel. Heat exchanger and die adaptation are optional. Contact: Beringer LLC Tel: +1 781 631 6300 Fax: +1 781 631 9429 www. beringer-plastics, c o r n
New extruder control system is versatile and cost-effective Processors wanting an extrusion control system with maximum flexibility and a wide range of control capabilities should consider the new Mesa Pack and Mesa Pack Pro controls, says manufacturer Davis-Standard. The Mesa Pack features multipen, real-rime trending; multiple levels of security to separate operator, supervisor and maintenance functions; process data acquisition and reporting capabilities; a configurable closed loop control function; and optional data storage for archival of recipes and production data. The system is capable of controlling an extruder and one additional speed controlled device, as well as extruder temperature control of the extruder and associated auxiliary heat zones. The basic software is pre-
configured, says DavisStandard, although processors have the flexibility to customize parameter names. According to the company, the Mesa Pack Pro has all the features of the Mesa Pack plus additional options that provide increased functionality and flexibility. These include a colour touch screen with membrane keys and speed adjustment devices, as well as integrated temperature control loops with automatic tuning. The system can provide control of multiple extruders and auxiliary equipment, providing versatility for the control of an entire system. Motan Inc. has added a new
gravimetric dosing and blending unit to its existing product range. The Gravicolor 100 meters and blends up to four pelletized materials with a throughput of up to 150 kg/h at a precision of 0.1%, claims the
company. The unit is equipped with segmented material hoppers, a weighing hopper and two precision weighing cells. Cylindrical valves are used for high precision dosing and provide a high degree of repeatability. Moran says that the Gravicolor 100 can either be installed on the processing machine or used as a central
blending station. All hardware in contact with the plastic material is constructed of stainless steel, while the large sight glasses allow observation of the material flow during the blending and mixing process. The company says that the Gravicolor 100 is operated simply and easilyby an intelligent PLC control system. The actual metered and w e i g h e d a m o u n t s are c o n -
