Welcome to IAOO 2009 Dear Colleague, On behalf of the Officers and the Council of the International Academy of Oral Oncology, we are delighted to welcome you to beautiful Toronto, July 8–11, 2009 for the Second World Congress of our Academy. During the course of the past four years, the Academy has made significant strides with growing membership, drawing specialists from all parts of the world interested in the field of oral cancer. The First World Congress in May 2007 in Amsterdam was a great success and we hope to make the Second Congress an even greater scientific event. For this endeavor our Program Chairman, Professor Patrick Gullane, assisted by an outstanding scientific program committee have constructed a comprehensive scientific program. The program is expected to be educational, informative, and interesting. The scientific sessions consist of keynote addresses by world experts, panel discussions, debates on controversial issues, and proffered papers selected from submitted abstracts. Several national and international supportive organizations are participating with sponsored symposia in various aspects of oral/head and neck surgery and oncology. Recognizing the important role that supportive care has to offer to the oral cancer patient, a half-day seminar is also devoted to this subject at the end of the Congress. A rich and interesting social program supplements an outstanding scientific program, making this a memorable event. The city of Toronto, the largest city in Canada, is renowned for its hospitality and safety. Toronto is the multicultural capital of Canada with a wide array of entertainment and dining opportunities. Nature surrounds and is integrated into the design of the city and visitors are able to walk in its beautiful parks, enjoy a visit to the islands, or partake in a vast array of outdoor sporting activities. We are delighted to welcome you to Toronto:
