Welcoming address from the International Goat Association夽
Warm greetings from the International Goat Association. It’s my pleasure to salute our dedicated members throughout the world and to welcome you to this special edition of Small Ruminant Research. We are proud of our 25-year history and reputation of promoting goat research and development around the globe. Through the years, with the strong support of our dedicated members from more than 70 countries, the IGA has successfully: • Linked a global network of producers, scientists and institutions to share best practices and plan for the future—an ongoing effort that helps combat poverty, promote prosperity and improve quality of life for people around the world. • United leaders from around the world annually at the International Conference on Goats, a premier event for industry researchers, practitioners and other devoted individuals and institutions. • Developed, with Elsevier, a credible and reputable journal, “Small Ruminant Research”. • Put science into practice by linking research institutions with rural and community development programs.
夽 This paper is part of the special issue entitled Plenary Papers of
the 8th International Conference on Goats, Guest Edited by Professor Norman Casey. 0921-4488/$ – see front matter doi:10.1016/j.smallrumres.2005.10.005
• Served as a valuable strategic and networking resource for members around the globe. • Developed a highly regarded reputation in the industry for advocating the importance of goats in alleviating poverty through socially just, environmentally sound and economically viable goat production. • Consistently assembled a dynamic and diverse board of directors to lead the IGA and its work into the future. Now, as we plan for the time ahead, much work remains to expand and improve upon our efforts of the past. The IGA will continue to rely on members like you to play an active role in our organization, but also in your community, country and world. Together, we are making a difference, and helping to change the landscape of poverty in our world. Again, thank you for your support of the IGA. Your involvement is important to us, and we look forward to working with you soon. Sincerely, Chris Lu President, International Goat Association
