Biographical Notes MARGARETAULD Author of: A method by which the necessary nursing establishment of a hospital may be estimated
Miss Auld, who is at present Matron of the Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavilion, Edinburgh, undertook her general training at Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, and a year after the completion of this became a State Certified Midwife. Thereafter she undertook the Midwife Teachers Diploma Course at Kingstonupon-Thames and the Certificate of Nursing Administration at the University of Edinburgh. Combining both nursing and writing, Miss Weiss has been in administrative and teaching positions in psychiatric institutions and has had published a number of books and articles on both psychiatric nursing and more general nursing subjects, the latter in journals abroad as well as in the United States. ESTHER KALB Author of: Volunteers for International Technical Assistance Esther Kalb, R.N., holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Denver. In addition to her work with Volunteers for International Technical Assistance, she is active in another volunteer capacity, tutoring perceptually handicapped children. Her nursing career includes duties as In-service Co-ordinator at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin; School Nurse in a Kansas City School System; Supervisor and Acting Director of Nursing at Menorah Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri; Director of Nursing, Boone County Hospital, Columbia, Missouri; and Staff Supervisor at the University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia, Missouri. ANNE VALERIE COWIE Author of:

Trained at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, remaining for 2 years as Theatre Charge Nurse. Came to Bermuda in 1959 to work in the Operating Room of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for 3 years, then as a Doctor’s office nurse/receptionist. Took the RCN Administrative Course in 1965 and presently employed as Assistant Matron, King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. KATHERINE HILL CHAVIGNY Author of: Palpation of the pulse in the cardiac care unit S.R.N. Manchester Ncrthern Hospital, Part I Midwifery at Manchester Willington Hospital. Received registration on completion of further psychiatric training at St. Vincent de Paul Sanitarium, New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A. Recently received B.Sc. degree at the University of Oregon School of Nursing and is now studying for a Master’s degree in medical surgical nursing at the same institution. LIBERTY KOVACS Author of:
