oster Wheeler AG’s Global Engineering and Construction Group is to provide project management consultancy (PMC) services for Gulf Farabi Petrochemical Co’s Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) plant expansion at Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The new plant will have an annual production capacity of 100 000 tonnes of LAB which is a basic ingredient in the formulation of synthetic detergents. The first phase of the project covers the preparation and issue of an invitation to bid for the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm), EPCm bid evaluations, preparation of the EPCm contract and support to Gulf Farabi during the engineering and procurement phase of the project. For the second phase, Foster Wheeler will provide support to Gulf Farabi during the construction phase, with key personnel based at site in 2010 through to 2011 when the project is scheduled for completion.

KBR wins Iraq refinery work

Halliburton to provide energy services for Eni in Iraq ni has selected Halliburton to deliver a range of integrated energy services towards the redevelopment of the Zubair field in southern Iraq. Work for the multi-million dollar contract is already underway. Halliburton will perform services such as wire-line logging, perforating, acidizing and well testing on 20 wells.

Aker Solutions signs up for Gudrun tie-in to Sleipner

tatoil has awarded Aker Solutions the Sleipner Modifications Portfolio Agreement and the first project-specific agreements for engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) for the Gudrun tie-in to Sleipner in the North Sea. The Sleipner area is the second largest gas producer in the North Sea, after the Troll field. Gudrun is a major field development project in the Sleipner area. Sleipner will process oil and gas from Gudrun in addition to supplying power to the Gudrun platform. Work under the NOK900 million contract will be completed by October 2013.

BR has secured two contracts from the Republic of Iraq Ministry of Oil through the South Refineries Co. KBR will provide licensing and basic engineering services for the construction of Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) and Solvent Deasphalting (SDA) units at the planned grassroots Maissan Refinery in Maissan, Iraq. KBR will license its FCC Technology for an anticipated 47 500 barrels per day (BPD) FCC unit and its Residuum Oil Supercritical 4

The Algerian oil company Sonatrach has awarded Saipem the EPC contract for the LDHP project within the framework of the LPG-LDHP initiative, at the Hassi Messaoud complex in central Algeria, 900km south east of Algiers. The LDHP project covers the engineering, procurement and construction of an oil-gas separation plant and a gathering system. In Nigeria, the NNPC/Chevron Nigeria Ltd Joint Venture has given Saipem the EPC contract for the Olero Creek Restoration Project in the Delta State, about 200 km northwest of Port Harcourt. The flow stations system at Olero Creek consists of four barge-mounted processing modules to separate oil and gas from the well, separately deliver oil and gas and to re-inject water to the well. The contract covers the refurbishment of two of the four stations: the NFS (North Flow Station) and the NWS (North Water Station). The project, scheduled to be completed in 19 months, will allow the client to recover 40 000 barrels per day of production, previously lost due to the damage incurred to the flow barges system. Congo’s Port Autonome de Pointe Noire has awarded the EPC contract for the reconstruction and extension of the Pointe Noire Container Quay to Saipem.

KBR constructs iron ore mine in Australia

U

nder a US$1.285 million contract, KBR is to provide engineering, procurement management and construction management (EPCM) for the Hope Downs 4 iron ore mine in remote Western Australia. The project is part of a joint venture between Rio Tinto and Hancock Prospecting. Rio Tinto will develop and operate the Hope Downs 4 mine as manager of the joint venture, for which KBR completed both the preliminary and final definitive engineering studies. KBR will provide design, engineering, procurement management, project and construction management for the 15 million dry tonnes per annum (Mtpa) mine, which is located 620 miles north of Perth. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2011, subject to regulatory approvals and be completed in early 2013. KBR completed Hope Downs 1 Stage 1, in 2008, and Stage 2 in 2009.
