International Symposium on Adhesion Measurement of Films and Coatings Cambridge/Boston, MA, USA, December 5-7, 1992 To be Item under the attspices of IBM Corporation

The International Symposium on Adhesion Measurements of Films and Coatings wiil be held in Cambridge/Boston, MA, USA, December 5-7, 1992, and immediately follows the Materials Research Society Meeting in Boston. Films and coatings are used for a variety of purposes - functional, decorative, protective - and irrespective of the intended purpose of a film or coating its acceptable level of adhesion to the underlying substrate is of paramount importance. So the need for quantitative methods of assessing adhesion of films and coatings is quite patent. Recently there has been tremendous activity and progress in ameliorating the existing techniques or devising new ways to measure adhesion. Even a cursory look at the literature will evince that the tempo of interest in this topic is very high and all signals indicate that it will continue unabated. So this symposium is well needed and very timely. The objectives of this symposium are: (1) To provide a forum for the dissemination of latest developments in this field. (2) To provide an opportunity for cross-polination of ideas. (3) To identify techniques which need intensified R & D activity. Elsevier Science PublishersB.V.

Papers dealing with all kinds of films and coatings (metallic, ceramic, polymeric) on all types of substrates (metallic, ceramic, polymeric) will be considered. Also, films and coatings could be deposited by any method (solvent cast, electrophoresis, plasma polymerization, evaporation, sputtering). A proceedings volume is planned for this symposium, and further details will be provided in due course. Please notify the organizer of your intention to present a paper as early as possible. An abstract of about 200 words should be sent to the address given below by October 1, 1992. Dr. K.U Mittal, Organizer IBM U.S. Technical Education 500 Columbus Avenue Thornwood, NY 10594.
