Letter of Welcome

Letter of Welcome On behalf of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) and the Organising Committee, we warmly welcome you to the 8th EONS Spring Convention, Geneva, Switzerland, 26–27 April 2012. This biennial Spring Convention follows the tradition of bringing together European cancer nurses from many fields of expertise to “Share, inspire and connect”. Incorporating all the core elements common to past Spring Convention programmes with an essential balance of instructional methods, plenary lectures and selected proffered papers, educational and interactive sessions as well as varied clinical update symposia, the format has been specifically designed to meet the needs of nurses working in the field of cancer care, education and research. This together with a first class panel of speakers presenting on the very latest trends and developments within this specialty has consequently drawn an audience comprising all stakeholders in the field of oncology nursing. Hot topics for this convention include the very basis of cancer nursing ‘Involving and Empowering Patients’, personalised cancer care, personalised medicine and genomic information, early detection and prevention, management of skin cancer and skin problems, symptom management with focus on chronic pain, patient empowerment, nutrition during cancer treatment and critical care. To profit most from all topics offered and to ensure participants do not miss out on any sessions they wish to attend the Scientific Committee decided to repeat some of the sessions. Finally, we take this opportunity to invite you to the Welcome Reception held in the exhibition area of the Conference venue, providing you the opportunity to meet colleagues from around the world, to network in a convivial setting and forge new links for future collaboration.
