Synthesis and X-ray structural characterisation of two neutral 1D polymers, [Cd(imH)2(NCS)(SCN)]n (1) and [Cd(pfan)(NCS)(SCN)]n (2) were carried out. In both polymers 1 and 2, octahedral CdII ions occupy centre of symmetry with a CdN4S2 chromophore. Supramers 1 and 2 display intraligand 1 ðp–p Þ fluorescence and intraligand 3 ðp–p Þ phosphorescence in glassy solutions (MeOH at 77 K).

The reaction of tetrasodium p-sulfonatothiacalix[4]arene and trivalent lanthanide ions in the presence of 4,13-diaza-18-crown-6 forms ionic capsules, and the diaza-crown ethers can also insert into the hydrophobic layers so that thiacalixarenes form irregular bi-layer structures.

Soo Gyun Roh, Jong Uk Yoon, Jong Hwa Jeong Polyhedron 23 (2004) 2063 Synthesis and characterization of a chiral Zn(II) complex based on a trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane derivative and catalytic reduction of acetophenone

Elsevier Ltd.

Reaction of ZnCl2with R; R-bmbcd (=N ; N 0 bis(4-methoxy-benzyl)-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine) yields the chiral [ZnCl2(R; R-bmbcd)] in which the Zn atom has a distorted tetrahedral geometry involving two nitrogen atoms of R; R-bmbcd and two chloro ligands. The catalytic enantioselective reduction of acetophenone promoted by R; R-bmbcd:Zn(OTf)2=1:1 mole ratio in the presence of catecholborane give (S)-())-1-phenylethanol in 48% ee with 77% yield.

The [VO(didadf)(H2O)](BF4)2(didadf=diiminediaminediphenolate ligand) complex and its characterization are described. This compound was obtained from the reaction between [V(H2O)6]2+ and the tetraiminediphenolate macrocyclic ligand under severe inert atmosphere conditions through an unusual hydrogenation reaction.

The synthesis and structural characterization of three new silver(I) coordination compounds are reported. Each represents an infinite tubular coordination network that is isolated within a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network involving counter ions. Both the silver(I) ions and the two triamino ligands are three-connected nodes, forming a 42 6 topological network.

Deviations from planarity of the bipyridine ligand are discussed in terms of bow and twist angles and an S-shaped deformation.

Polyhedron 23 (2004) 2095 Synthesis, characterization, thermodynamic and thermal studies of Zn(II) complexes with di-2-pyridyl ketone salicyloylhydrazone

Zinc(II) in aqueous/ethanolic (50% V/V), pH 4.5, solution forms with di-2-pyridyl ketone salicyloylhydrazone (DPKSH) two complexes, [Zn(C18H13N4O2)]+ and [Zn(C18H13N4O2)2], which were characterized by electron ionization and electrospray mass spectra, IR, thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The overall formation constants and the molar absorptivies were obtained for both of the complexes.
