Announcement

THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MANUFACTURING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE 11-13 June 1991 Enschede, The Netherlands

Hosted by: The University of Twente, Laboratory of Production Engineering and The Dutch Society of Manufacturing Engineering (VvW) in cooperation with: The Association of German Engineers (VDI) and Society for Production Engineering (ADB) Sponsored by:

Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing The MSTF Conferences are sponsored by Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing. The two previous conferences took place at MIT, Cambridge MA in 1987 ("Intelligent Manufacturing") and at RIT, Stockholm in 1989 ("The Total Manufacturing System"). The theme of the MSTF '91 Conference is: "Manufacturing Science and Information Technology: Goals and Potentials for the Near Future". Rapid developments in information technology provide the basis for a different and more genuine approach to many of the problems in management, planning and control of manufacturing production. The application of information technology to manufacturing problems requires, however, an enormous effort with respect to both the integration of functions and system design. It is of vital importance that manufacturing engineers take the lead in developing their own solutions instead of relying too much on the power of new generations of software tools. The MSTF '91 Conference addresses five major themes, i.e. Design, Process Planning, Equipment and Human Resources, Production Control, and finally Quality Control. Suggested topics are: • Design for Manufacture and Assembly • Product and Feature Modelling • Product Data Interchange (PDI) • Manufacturing Systems Modelling • New Materials and Processes • Process Modelling • Manufacturing Databases • Functional Integration, Standardization and Communication • Simulation • Integration of Manufacturing and Handling Functions • Modularity in Manufacturing Equipment • Tools and Toolmanagement • Functional Integration of Process Planning and Production Control • Geometric Measuring and Process Monitoring • Shopfloor Control • Human Centered Automation • Manufacturing Demands on Information Engineering.

Announcement Preprints will be available at the conference. Contributions from industry are especially encouraged. Preliminary acceptance is based on a long abstract not exceeding 600 words. The abstract must provide sufficient information to allow assessment of the scope and the quality of the paper. Papers must be written in English. Only 20 papers will be accepted for presentation at conference. Papers which cannot be presented by the author(s) themselves are excluded.
