410 earlier work, Professor Cai, the Vice-President of Xiamen University proposed and developed (see, for example, "Nitrogen Fixation", (W. OrmeJohnson and W. E. Newton, Eds.) Univ. Park Press, Baltimore, U.S.A. 1980, p 373) a new model for the active centre in nitrogenase, the so-called "twin-sited-dicubane-type-cluster structure"; this model can explain the reactions of all known nitrogenase substrates. The head of the catalysis laboratory at Xiamen is Associate Professor Huang Kai Hui, who has, since 1977, published a series of papers on the mechanism of ammonia synthesis; some of this work was described at the 7th International Congress on Catalysis in Tokyo. Another paper from the same laboratory was presented at the same Congress, this time from the "polyethylene" group, which includes Chen Dean, and is also under the direction of Professor Cai. Other current work includes an investigation of the dehydrogenation of ethyl benzene. 1982 Pittsburgh Conference and Exposition on Analytical Chemistry Applied Spectroscopy

The above meeting will be held in Atlantic City, the dates being March 8-13, 1982. Further details are obtainable from Programme Secretary, Pittsburoh Conference. 437 Donald Road. Pittsburgh, PA 15235,-U.S.A. A special package tour for European scientists attending the conference has been announced in the first regular issue of Trends in Analytical Chemistry (TrAC) published recently (Vol.1, No2 Oct. i981). The Roermond
Conference
on Catalysis
The Roermond Conferences, held in the Bisschoppelijk College, Schondeln, Roermond, The Netherlands, are styled after the pattern of the well-known Gordon Research Conferences. They are organised by the Catalysis Section of
the Royal Dutch Chemical Society and are attended by about 120 scientists from university and industrial research centres. Previous symposia were held in the summers of 1967, 1970, 1974 and 1978. The fifth is scheduled for the week of July 11 to 18, 1982 and, as a central theme, will emphasise some chemistry and experimental methods which are expected to become increasingly important in the near future. There will be sessions on catalysis by synthesis gas, metal-support interactions, photo- and electrochemistry, zeolites and experimental methods, the latter including EELS, EXAFS, electron microscopy, neutron diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and solid state NMR. Third International Symposium Homogeneous Catalysis
on
Organised by the University of Milan and the Catalysis Group of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) and Lombardy Section, under the sponsorship of the SC1 and the Consialio Nazion ale. delle Ricerche, this meering will be held in Milan from August 30 to September 3, 1982. The following topics will be covered: catalysis of homogeneous activat on of CO, CO2 and H2; homogeneous catalysis of methano ; .., . r. catalysis ot nomogeneous oxidation; catalysis by metal clusters; homogeneous catalysis in the synthesis of fine organic compounds; olefin metathesis and related reactions of unsaturated compounds; catalytic asymmetric synthesis; relations between synthetic catalysts and enzymes; and homogeneous photocatalysis. The official language of the conference is English. A ladies' programme will be arranged. The second circular for the symposium will be available in November 1981 and should be requested from Dr. Linares, C/O Societa Chimica Italiana, Sezione Lombarda, P. le R. Morandi, 2, 20121 Milano, ITALY.
