The XVIth Congress of the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) will be held July 23–30, 2003, at the Reno Hilton, Reno, Nevada, USA All Quaternary scientists are urged to attend the XVIth INQUA Congress, the premier gathering of this group, which only occurs every four years. Scientific Program The scientific program is comprised of symposia, poster sessions, a public forum, and plenary lectures. Poster presentations will be the main mode for conveying scientific results. Thirty symposia have been scheduled and will consist of invited and volunteered oral presentations, with linked poster sessions. There will also be over 40 additional poster sessions on a variety of themes, as well as four general poster sessions. Field Trips A wide variety of pre- and post-Congress field trips to areas of interest to Quaternary scientists have been scheduled, mostly in the western United States. In addition, a series of one-day mid-Congress excursions has been organized to places of scientific interest in the Reno-Lake Tahoe area.

Accommodation For Congress participants accommodation is available at discounted rates at the Reno Hilton, which is the congress venue. Guest Program There will be a varied program of events and excursions for accompanying persons. Reno and the adjacent city of Sparks are nestled in a valley of the Truckee River at an altitude of about 1500 m, at the foot of the partly forested eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Reno has direct flights to many major U.S.A. west-coast cities (San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle), and to several other U.S.A. cities. The weather in late July should be dry and sunny, with maximum temperatures in the 30’s C and cool nights (10–151C).
