RECOVERY OF CHEMICALS FROM PULP WASTE LIQUOR Sven Santen, Ragnar Bernhard, Sven-Erik Malmeblad, Hofors, Sweden assigned to SKF Steel Engineering AB; Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags

The process according to the present invention mainly consists in successively bringing the surface of the contaminated materials into contact with a solution of sodium carbonate for some time, bringing the surface of the contaminated materials into contact with a solution of diluted nitric acid, while potassium permanganate is being added, bringing the contaminated materials into contact with a solution of oxalic acid (COOH&l3 COOH.2H + HD 2+ L 0), and finally rinsing and drying said materials. -t RE

The invention relates to the recovery of chemicals from waste liquor from wood pulp process, primarily black liquor, while utilizing energy liberated. Controlled total vaporization of the pulp waste liquor at high temperature and low oxygen potential is achieved by the external supply of energy. During the subsequent condensation and separation of melt or water solution is obtained which, without causticizing, can be used for the preparation of white liquor, and also an energy rich gas and mainly free from sulphur, consisting primarily of carbon monoxide and hydrogen.

PROCESS FOR RECOVERING WASTE HEAT FROM FORMALDEHYDE PRODUCT GAS

SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF ORGANIC OILS AND SOLVENT RECOVERY

Shigeo Kimura, Kouich Kurata, Nagoya, Japan assigned to Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Inc

William W Bodle, Paul Tarman assigned to Institute of Gas Tehnology

Waste heat possessed by a hot formaldehyde product gas obtained -by catalytic reaction of methanol with air is heat exchanged with pressurized water in a waste heat boiler, thereby generating steam, and then leading the product gas to a formaldehyde absorption column, thereby absorbing formaldehyde, into an aqueous solution, and heat exchanging a recycling solution for a feed gas humidifier with the aqueous solution withdrawn from the bottom of absorption column. The waste heat can be efficiently recovered without deposition of paraformaldehyde on the heat transfer surface of heat exchanger and the amount of additional steam can be reduced or made entirely zero.

A process for recovery of organic oils and residues in association with inorganic solids by solvent extraction and for the recovery of solvent used for the extraction. The organic solvent extracted inorganic solids having remaining associated organic solvent is fluidized in a bed with fluidizing gas comprising superheated vapor of the organic solvent vaporizing and removing a substantial portion of the associated organic solvent. Then the solids are countercurrently contacted with a combustion gas stream at a lower temperature than the solids physically stripping a substantial portion of the residual solvent from the solids, the combustion gas stream being enhanced for combustion by comprising stripped organic solvent and by being heated.
