levels of vibrations of the rotary machines and a control processor for storing in memory reference data relative to selected rotational frequencies and corresponding alarm levels for the rotary machines. The vibration waveform of one vibration sensor selected by a scanner is converted by an A/D converter into digital data to be supplied to the signal processor through a shift register. The signal processor is operated under program control to determine the peak-topeak magnitude of the vibration waveform and compares it with the alarm level provided from the control processor. When the peak-to-peak magnitude of the vibration waveform exceeds the vibration alarm level corresponding to the selected rotary machine, an alarm signal and indicating signals are generated by the control process and sent to output appliances for indicating the vibrating condition thereof.

4683711 THREAD MONITORING DEVICE Alfred Glock, Stuttgart, Federal Republic Of Germany assigned to SKF TextilmaschinenKomponenten GmbH A spinning machine is provided with a thread monitoring device having a light source and a light sensitive cell to sense the thread running to a spindle from the front exit rollers. The thread monitor is formed of two parts, each having a housing arranged on either side of the thread. Within each housing is the light source and the light sensitive cell. The housings are each detachably connected to a slider which is adjustably held in a guide support that can be swivelled and locked in a carrier which is secured to the free end of a support rail running alongside and parallel to the roller supporting arm.

4683947 PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING AND CONTROLLING THE FLAMMABILITY OF GAS FROM AN IN-SITU COMBUSTION OIL RECOVERY PROJECT John Fernbacher, James G Hansel assigned to Air Products and Chemicals Inc Process and apparatus are set forth for ascertaining and controlling the flammability of produced gas from an in-situ combustion enhanced

petroleum production well whereby the produced oil is sampled, the produced gas is periodically sampled, the temperature, pressure and produced gas flow rate are sensed, and a moderant gas is added to the production well to avoid flammability when the sampled and sensed parameters indicate a flammability condition exists.

4685066 CONTAMINATION MONITOR AND METHOD Joseph C Hafele, John W Crayton assigned to Caterpillar Inc A contamination monitor for sensing particle contamination in a liquid system having a filter includes a sensor for measuring the pressure differential across the filter, a reference apparatus for providing information relative to at least one of the viscosity changes and the flow changes of the liquid passing through the filter by providing one or more reference signals relating thereto, and a programmable data processing and interface unit for receiving data from the sensor and the reference apparatus and providing a recognizable compensated output corresponding to the contamination level of the liquid system. The data processing and interface unit can provide a plurality of command signals for lighting a plurality of lights that can be individually used for diagnostic purposes and can provide information on the rate of plugging of the filter.

8704521 METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING DEFLOCCULATED PARTICLES IN SUSPENSION Barry Randall JENNINGS, Kevin PARSLOW, Terence Wilfred WEBB, Corner Cottage, Guildford Road, Ottershaw, Surrey KT16 9RV, United Kingdom assigned to ECC INTERNATIONAL LIMITED Method of monitoring and apparatus for monitoring the deflocculation of particles in a suspension, which particles, when deflocculated are such that they can become aligned in an applied field. The apparatus embodiments disclosed include a laser (3) for producing a beam of light incident on the surface area of said region, a detector (6) for detecting scattered light reflected

New Patents in a particular direction from said surface area, means (8,9,10) for producing an electric field across said region and means (11) for detecting changes in detector output in the presence of an applied electric field as compared with the output in the absence of an electric field.

8704525 PLATED SENSOR FOR MONITORING CORROSION OR ELECTROPLATING Clifford G MOORE, Herbert P SILVERMAN, James R BREDOW assigned to ROHRBACK CORPORATION A high sensitivity electroplating or corrosion sensor and method for sensing employing a relatively strong, self-supporting electrically conductive substrate (32a) of high resistivity and a

V

test coating (31a) that is electroplated directly onto the substrate. For corrosion monitoring, a test element of the sensor is formed of a thick, high resistivity substrate, such as stainless steel, upon which is electroplated a thin test coating of material to be tested in a corrosive environment. For many applications, the ratio of resistivity of the substrate to resistivity of the test coating is substantially equal to the ratio thickness of the substrate to thickness of the test coating, which ratios may be about 40 to 1. The sensor may be employed in the monitoring of electroplating by immersing the stainless steel substrate in the electrolytic bath with the object to be plated and measuring the decreasing parallel resistance of the substrate and coating that is plated upon the substrate during a plating of the object. To decrease resistance measuring noise due to currents generated in the plating or corrosion sensor by external currents, the power supply is connected to the sensor substrate to cause equal and opposite current components to flow in the substrate.
