ADSA and ASAS will hold the 2011 Joint Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, July 10–14. Visit http://adsa.asas.org/meetings/2011/ for meeting, registration, and housing information. The Oskar Kellner Symposium, Metabolic Flexibility in Human and Animal Nutrition, will be held September 9–11, 2011, Neptun Hotel in Warnemünde, Germany (on the Baltic coast). The symposium is being hosted by the German (GfE, DGE) and UK Nutrition Societies and strives to form a bridge between metabolic and nutrition research in animals and humans and should provide an overview on common regulatory principles and current concepts. The topics selected are of interest to both human and animal nutrition research. The
symposium provides opportunities for scholars and applied scientists in animal and human nutrition and physiology research to share information both formally and informally in the spirit of open communication. A further aim is to provide special opportunities for PhD students and young scientists to get into contact with established researchers in the field. Visit the meeting website (http://oks.fbn-dummerstorf.de) for more information. Twenty-Second Discover Conference, Milk Components: Opportunities for Maximizing Farm Gate Returns and Meeting Manufacturing Needs, October 10–13, 2011, at the Eaglewood Resort and Spa, Itasca, Illinois (near O’Hare airport). The conference will emphasize influences on milk components, both fat and protein, during production with input from processing, foods, and economics. Attendees will explore ways to improve linkages between milk components at the farm level and milk processing characteristics to help better understand what happens on farm and how this may impact processing. In addition, the conference will look at ways to help suppliers of raw materials, including milk producers and nutritionists, be aware of changes in the global situation affecting the need for milk components and future economic opportunities and challenges. Visit http://www.adsa.org/discover/22ndDiscover_2011. htm for more information and to register. The International Conference on Udder Health and Communication is to be held October 25–27, 2011, in Utrecht, the Netherlands. This conference is organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Dutch Udder Health Centre, GD Animal Health Service, and Wageningen University. Worldwide, mastitis is one of the most studied diseases in dairy cattle. Nevertheless, mastitis is still the most important disease in dairy cows in many countries. Udder health is important because of the quality of milk, health and welfare of the cow, economic losses and the image of milk production. Scientific presentations on various topics related to mastitis and communication will provide an excellent setting to learn about the latest insights in mastitis control in its broadest sense. Visit the conference website (http://www.mastitisconference2011.com/) for more information.
