Aquaporin makes progress
I
n the year to 30 September 2010, Danish biomimetic membrane company Aquaporin A/S realised a loss of DKR4.0 million, which is in line with expectations. Key achievements for Aquaporin during the 2009/2010 financial year include funding from the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation, the European Commission and the Environmental and Water Industrial Foundation in Singapore; new headquarters and a development centre in Copenhagen, Denmark; a new development project at Nanyang Technological University’s Singapore Membrane Technology Centre, and the approval of a number of patents. An Asian subsidiary is also being established. Aquaporin CEO Peter Holme Jensen said: “The Aquaporin management group is very pleased with the progress we have experienced over the past year. We have created the ideal foundation for completing the development and commercialisation of the Aquaporin membrane technology on an international level.” In the coming year the company will be developing the Aquaporin membrane technology internationally and expects to conclude its first strategic partnership agreement on product development with an international industrial partner. Aquaporin is a 70%-owned subsidiary of the M Goldschmidt Holding Group.

Alfa Laval acquires Aalborg Industries
A
lfa Laval is buying Danish marine boiler engineering company Aalborg Industries from Nordic investors Altor 2003 Fund and LD Equity 1 K/S. With 2600 employees and subsidiaries in 14 countries, Aalborg Industries’ business areas include marine boilers and heat exchangers; inert gas systems; thermal fluid systems; floating production systems; exhaust gas cleaning; water treatment systems; and industrial boilers. in Sandefjord, Norway to the Nederman production units in Töredal and Helsingborg, Sweden. The closure of the Sandefjord facility will affect 25 people. Some new positions will be created in Töredal and Helsingborg, which will be offered to the affected people in Sandefjord. The transfer of production from Norway to Sweden will start immediately and should be completed by the end of the second quarter 2011. The decision to transfer production follows an in-depth review of alternatives for the Norclean product range and is part of Nederman’s ongoing analysis of its businesses and operational structure following last year’s acquisition of Dantherm Filtration. Fiberweb optimistic on Orrell Filtration buys 2010 outlook Hilson filter bag division onwoven fabrics producer

Fiberweb plc continued to deliver improved trading in the second half of 2010. In a statement ahead of preliminary results for the year ending 31 December 2010, Fiberweb said that profits for the full year are expected to slightly exceed market expectations, with like for like sales about 10% ahead of the prior year. This would be a seventh consecutive six-month period of improved performance. The strongest trading performance has been in the Industrial business with good performance in filtration despite US construction markets remaining weak throughout the year.

Nederman Norclean transfers production from Norway to Sweden
rrell Filtration, a UK manufacturer of filter sleeves/bags for dust extraction equipment, has acquired the filter bag division of Manchester-based Hilson Ltd (formerly G Hunt Filtration Ltd), which went into administration in the last quarter of 2010. The sale to Orrell Filtration includes Hilson stock and machinery, which have been moved to Orrell Filtration’s Stalybridge site. Key staff have also been re-employed and relocated allowing Orrell Filtration to increase its capacity to produce filter sleeves, bags and multi-pocket filter elements. Orrell Filtration chairman Roland Orrell said: “We are aiming to be the UK’s number one filter bag manufacturer and this acquisition will enable us to double our capacity allowing us to supply the end user. We are also in the fortunate position to re-employ a specialist workforce with more than 40 years experience”
