In this paper, two genera, Liocrobyla Meyrick and Spulerina Vári, of the family Gracillariidae, which have been poorly known from Korea, are discussed in Korea. Of them, two species Liocrobyla desmodiella Kuroko, 1982 and Spulerina corticicola Kumata, 1964 are recorded for the first time from Korea. In addition, we provide the catalogue of two genera in Korea. Description and illustration of adults and genitalia for the newly recorded species are provided. Keywords: Gracillariidae Korea Lepidoptera New record
Introduction The genus Liocrobyla Meyrick, 1916 is a small group of the family Gracillariidae and belongs to the subfamily Ornixolinae Kuznetzov & Baryshnikova, 2001 with only 9 species in the world (De Prins and De Prins 2019). Of them, seven species have been known from Asia (Meyrick 1916, Kuroko 1960, Kuroko 1982, Noreika and Puplesis 1992, Liu et al 2018), 1 species from the Solomon Islands, and 1 species from South Africa respectively (Vári 1961, Liu et al 2018). In Korea, only three species have been recorded until now: Liocrobyla brachybotrys Kuroko, 1960, L. kumatai Kuroko, 1982, and L. lobata Kuroko, 1960 (Park et al 2012). The genus Spulerina Vári, 1961 belongs to the subfamily Acrocercopinae, Kawahara & Ohshima, 2017, comprising 20 described species worldwide. Most of them are mainly distributed in South Africa and Asia (De Prins and De Prins 2019). Until now, only 3 species have been known from Korea: Spulerina astaurota (Meyrick, 1922), S. castaneae Kumata & Kuroko, 1988, and S. dissotoma (Meyrick. 1961) (Park et al 2012). As far as we know, most Korean species have been known to feed on mainly Rosaceae and Fagaceae (De Prins and De Prins 2019).
In this study, two newly recorded species L. desmodiella and S. corticicola are reported for the first time from Korea. All the available information including images of adults and both genitalia, host plants, and distributional ranges were provided with a catalogue of Korea. Material and methods All specimens in this study were deposited in the Systematic Entomology Laboratory, Hannam University (SELHNU), Daejeon, Korea. Male and female genitalia were dissected and mounted using Euparal mountant (BioQuip Products, California, USA), following Holloway et al (1987). In addition, we provided photographs of the adult which were taken using a digital camera (Canon EOS 600D; Canon Inc., Ota, Tokyo, Japan) and the genitalia taken using a digital camera attached on the microscope (LEICA M205C; Leica Microsystems, Wetzlar, Hesse, Germany).
