Eni/Repsol JV picks FW for Venezuelan offshore development

C

ardon IV SA has awarded a project management contract to a subsidiary of Foster Wheeler AG’s Global Engineering and Construction Group for new production facilities for the Perla Field in the Gulf of Venezuela. The new production facilities will include offshore structures, trees, controls, offshore processing, subsea flowlines, export pipelines, the shore approach and utilities facilities from the wellheads to an onshore gas plant, and tiein to an existing gas and condensate pipeline system. First gas is planned at the end of 2014. Foster Wheeler will supervise the engineering, procurement and construction contractors and the procurement of longlead equipment. Supervision activities will be carried out in Foster Wheeler engineering centres in Houston, Madrid, London and Rijeka, Croatia, and in more than 15 countries for fabrication and construction of equipment and materials at module and jacket fabrication yards and for site installation. Cardon IV SA is a joint venture company owned by Eni Venezuela BV and Repsol YPF Venezuela Gas SA.

SNC-Lavalin awarded oil sands project

NC-Lavalin is to complete the detailed engineering and provide procurement services for Phase 3A of MEG Energy’s Christina Lake Regional Project steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) central processing facility in northeast Alberta. MEG Energy is a pure-play oil sands producer with a large, wholly owned resource base in Alberta’s southern Athabasca region. Phase 3A, the first phase in a multi-stage project with regulatory approval to produce 150 000 barrels per day, is part of an overall 4

Hyundai Heavy wins US$3.3bn power plant order in Saudi Arabia

H

yundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd (HHI) has won a US$3.3 billion contract from Saudi Electricity Co (SEC) to build the Shuqaiq Steam Power Plant (SSPP) on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. As the sole EPC contractor, Hyundai Heavy will carry out the construction of the 2640 MW oil-fired steam power project on a turnkey basis including engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning. Hyundai Heavy will complete the project by 2017.

FW to study power options for Liberian mines

A

subsidiary of Foster Wheeler AG’s Global Engineering and Construction Group is to undertake a concept study for Western Cluster Ltd (WCL) for power plant facilities to serve planned iron ore mines in Liberia. WCL is planning to build three iron ore mines in Liberia. The Foster Wheeler study will investigate options for greenfield captive power facilities to meet the mines’ expected power demand. WCL estimates that the initial power requirement for the

first mine to be developed will be around 70 MW, while the full demand will be 300–400 MW. The Foster Wheeler study will evaluate various power generation technologies and feedstock sources as well as options for the supply of power to multiple operational locations. The study is expected to be completed later this year.

Bilfinger to upgrade Polish power plant

ilfinger Power Systems is to modernize another boiler at the Belchatow power plant in Poland under an E80 million contract secured from Polish electricity supplier PGE. Three of the Belchatow power plant’s steam generators have already been modernized by Bilfinger and the company is currently working on six further boilers.

Eastman to increase Tritan copolyester capacity

lobal specialty chemical company Eastman Chemical Co has announced plans to increase production capacity for its Tritan copolyester at its Kingsport facility in Tennessee, USA. The company plans to expand its Tritan copolyester production capacity from 60 000 metric tons to 76 000 metric tons through a series of capital projects. The investment is designed to meet increasing demand that Eastman Chemical is experiencing for the material. The projects are expected to be completed by mid-2014. Eastman Chemical says that it will continue to evaluate options for more significant expansions in the future. Launched in 2007, Eastman Chemical’s Tritan is a new-generation copolyester that provides a balance of properties, including toughness, dishwasher durability and superior clarity. Tritan has been used for more than 600 food contact products ranging from serving and storing items to reusable sports bottles, infant care products and small appliances.
