Changes in Editorial Leadership' Edmund A. Franken, Jr, MD
In a previous commentary (1) I noted the goal of reorienting the journal to the needs of its principal readers--academic radiologists, allied scientists, and trainees in our discipline. The members of our current editorial board are uniformly top-quality people who have served the journal well. Nevertheless, it is prudent to appoint some new individuals with different orientations and interests to allow refreshment of the editorial board and to offer editorial experience to others. I previously announced the appointment of Wilbur Smith, MD, as Executive Associate Editor with responsibilities for educational material. I am pleased to announce other substantial changes in the editorial board. Among them is the appointment of Retta Pelsang, MD, as Deputy Editor; she will assist in many areas of the journal. As academic radiology develops more ties around the globe, it is appropriate that the journal respond. A number of years ago, Bruce Hillman set up a category of corresponding editors of Academic Radiology and attracted prominent radiologists from throughout the world to serve in this role. Many of these outstanding individuals now have new editorial responsibilities for other journals; others have assumed major responsibilities in other asi~ects of academic medicine. Effective with this issue Drs Albert L. Baert, Ludivico Dalia Palma, Peter Dawson, Jean-Francois Moreau, Mutsumasa Takahashi, and K.-J. Wolf complete their assignments as corresponding editors of the journal. We thank them sincerely for their major efforts in making Academic Radiology truly an international journal. Drs Richard L. Clark, Hedvig Hricak, and James Nelson have served well for many years as associate editors. We thank them also for their efforts on behalf of the
journal at this time, as they rotate off the editorial board. The responsibilities of Drs Felix Chew and Michael Bettman are changed to those of Editors--again with our thanks for a job well done. At the same time, the editorial organization of the journal changes. The category of corresponding editor has been eliminated. We are pleased to change the title and responsibilities of Drs Hans G. Ringertz, Michael R. Sage, and Henrik S. Thomsen to those of associate editors. This will allow better integration of the international presence of Academic Radiology. Even further strengthening occurs with the appointment of 10 new associate editors from outside the United States: Tsutomu Araki, MD, Yamanashi Medical University, Yamanashi, Japan Mostafa Atri, MD, McGill University, Montreal, Canada Claudia da Costa Leite, MD, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil Adrian K. Dick has done an outstanding job as editor of this section, month after month, year after year. Attempting to keep up with change in medicine and education, we are modifying reviews of educational media as follows. The Bookshelf continues; Mauricio Castillo, MD, of the University of North Carolina Medical Center, Chapel Hill, has assumed responsibility for this section. This issue of the journal, in addition to The Bookshelf, contains a new column, edited by Alan S. Brody, MD, of the University of Cincinnati (Ohio) School of Medicine. The section is entitled Electronic.Resource.Site and will offer information on electronic media. In the future, The Bookshelf and the Electronic.Resource.Site will appear in alternating issues of the journal. I am most appreciative of Drs Brody and Castillo for assuming these responsibilities, and I am happy to announce their appointment as associate editors of Aca-
