In this section of the j o u r n a l we intend to keep subscribers informed regarding events of significance in neuroscience occurring in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe. These events may be new appointments, medico-political changes or research developments. In addition, a listing of conferences will be maintained. Contributions to this section are welcomed and should be sent to either the Editor-in-Chief or to the compiler of the News pages whose address is at the end of the section.
grafts, the National Hormone Advisory Council has prepared a videotape "Understanding CJD" primarily for use of medical and professional organisations. In addition, an information sheet regarding CJD is available from the NSA. The video may be obtained from the National Pituitary Hormone Advisory Council, GPO Box 9848, Canberra, ACT 2601.
NSA ON THE INTERNET The NSA Home Page is established oi1 the internet and can be found at http://www.nsa.on.net. At this site can be accessed copies of the NSA Newsletter, which is normally available to members of the Society, together with details of upcoming meetings. There is a listing of the executive members of the NSA and a brief historical overview. In addition, there are links to neurosurgery oncall, the AANS/CNS internet site. Further links and information will be added to the NSA Home Page. Suggestions or comments should be forwarded via E-mail to Professor NigelJones at nj
[email protected]. Clinicians and neuroscientists are encouraged to communicate by E-mail. It is anticipated that a directory of interested clinicians and neuroscientists may be available through the NSA Home Page. The editor of these News & Notes can be accessed via nsurg@austin. unimelb.edu.au.
Following recent committee work carried out in the United States of America, interest has been expressed in standardising head injury management by the adoption of guidelines according to proven or established protocols. With this in mind a symposium has been organized for 12-13 April 1997, at the Stanford Plaza Hotel, Adelaide on the management of severe head injury. This symposium is u n d e r the auspices of the NSA and the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society. Australasian and international key note speakers will be addressing the issue of establishing uniform guidelines for head injury management. Other international meetings of note to be held in Australia in the near future include the 6th International conference on cerebro-vasospasm in May 1997, the 13th International Congress of Neuropathology in September, 1997 and the International Society of Paediatric Neurosurgery Meeting in September, 1998.

DEATHS It is with much regret that the death of John Segelov is noted on 11 September 1996. Dr. Segelov was a past President of the NSA and worked tirelessly on its behalf over many years. He established a national computerised database for neurosurgery and contributed to many scientific presentations and papers. He had a particular expertise and interest in acoustic n e u r o m a surgery. Dr Segelov was made a m e m b e r of the Order of Australia in 1992 and his service to neurosurgery was recognised by the award of the NSA Medal in 1993. At a memorial service at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on the 11 October 1996 an overflowing congregation heard of his achievements and listened to tributes from his colleagues and friends. He leaves a wife, Maureen, who was a significant support to his many and varied activities and two children.
