PRECIS virtually any object. The OVM's camera, lens, and fiber optic illumination are integrated into a hand-held probe that is taken to the specimen, allowing the user to conveniently view subjects whose observation previously was impossible or impractical.
The high resolution image shown by the new OVM 1000 is displayed on a video monitor, thereby reducing eye strain while increasing productivity. The OVM 1000 consists of two basic components: a control module, available with and without memory;
and a probe that contains a high resolution color CCD chip (460 lines), fiber optic illumination of 12V/100 Watts, and a variety of lenses from 20x to 1000 x . Olympus Corporation, Precision Instrument Division, 4 Nevada Dr., Lake Success, NY 11042, USA.
Disk flatness tester The WYKO 400 interferometer is ideally suited for production testing of disk flatness. The system eliminates the need for manual data interpretation of fringe patterns. Optical fabrication shops, precision lapping operations, quality control departments, and disk/wafer producers will find the WYKO 400 invaluable for their testing needs. The system features 4-inch test aperture, 6 x continuous zoom imaging, simple twin spot alignment system, live fringe output, and automatic phase-measuring capability. Pass/fail software provides high throughput in a production environment. Database functions, multiple configuration storage, user programmable displays, network capability, and extensive analysis options provide the maximum power and flexibility for any measurement needs. New Renishaw Quick Check gauge Renishaw, Inc., has recently introduced its Quick Check machine tool checking gauge, which verifies CNC machine tool accuracy and performance in a matter of minutes. Easy to set-up, it allows frequent evaluation of CNC machine tools. The Quick Check gauge measures contouring accuracy (servo performance), squareness, backlash, repeatability, and linear scale error. It complies with virtually all international standards and costs less than $5,000. Renishaw Quick Check is a telescoping ball bar, accurate to -+1.1 micron, with a resolution of 0.1 micron. Set-up is quick: using the unique Renishaw centering device, the bar 178
mounts between two magnetic seats. Using a variety of standard carbon fiber extension bars, Quick Check can be configured to measure machine performance over a radius of up to 600 mm. Complete measurement routines take just minutes using Renishaw's PC-based, menu-driven softwa re. Quick Check allows early detection of machine tool positioning and contouring errors, and it can help to assess both maintenance and repair frequencies. As a production aid, it can help determine which machine is right for the job. Renishaw, Inc., Inquiry Processing Dept., 23 E. Babbitt St., Dayton, OH 45405, USA. J U L Y 1992 VOL 14 NO 3
