Ashland Specialty Ingredients, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc, has introduced N-Hance 4572 conditioning polymer. The product is a high charge density, high molecular weight polymer system that is claimed to have better wet-comb and oil-deposition performance than current commercially available conditioning polymers. When compared with traditional cationic guar, the new offering is demonstrated to improve the distribution and total deposition of silicone and natural oils such as jojoba oil and meadowfoam across hair strands. N-Hance 4572 conditioning polymer is the first in a novel series of conditioning polymers from Ashland that may be used as a platform to ‘dial in’ conditioning properties based on needs such as distribution of oil across hair, oil deposition, combing performance and friction value (hair softness).

Canadian regulators have endorsed the continued use of decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) in skin creams, antiperspirants, shampoos and other personal care products. D5 was found not to be harmful to the environment, and any bioaccumulation of the compound does not pose a risk to biodiversity. Cosmetic manufacturers use D5 because it provides a nongreasy feel to skin creams, as well as bounce and shine in hair care products.
