Eccentric spiral pumps delivered to Nigerian oil terminal in the Niger delta Twenty eccentric spiral transfer pumps have been delivered to the Bonny oil pumping terminal in Nigeria as part of a renovation and expansion project. Located in the Niger river delta approximately 48 km southeast of Port Hartcourt work on enhancing the capabilities of the Shell operated Bonny facility is already well underway.
Allweiler AG won the renovation contract from Shell in the teeth of fierce international competition. It is the biggest order for the company’s Bottrop factory in Germany for more than 20 years. The pumps’ ability to move sandy oil/water mixtures, commonly found in crude oil applications, was the deciding factor in the award. For process reasons, the sand/oil/water mixtures at the Bonny terminal in Nigeria have to be pumped in an especially gentle manner so as to avoid any additional mixing. Subsequent separation of the three components would be much more difficult further down the refining process if the sand, oil and water emulsions were allowed to mix too thoroughly. Allweiler’s 20 eccentric spiral pumps are ideally suited to meet these process requirements. They are designed with a proprietary pumping geometry that enables very high volumetric efficiency and
Some of Allweiler’s eccentric spiral transfer pumps stand ready for despatch at the company’s factory in Bottrop, Germany, prior to their departure for the Bonny oil pumping terminal in Nigeria. The pumps, part of an order for 20 units, will be installed at the Shell operated facility as part of a renovation and expansion project.
Global Update Sumatra to Singapore natural gas pipeline The Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Goh Chok Tong, and the President of Indonesia, Ms. Megawati Sukarnoputri, recently gave the go ahead to a new 477 km-long natural gas pipeline. The PGN Sumatra-Singapore pipeline will run from Grissik in southern Sumatra, Indonesia, to Singapore’s Sakra Island supplying the country with enough natural gas for electricity generation for at least the next 20 years. A number of new contracts have already been awarded for this project with many more still up for grabs. One of the first company’s to win an order was Rotork, who will be supplying gas and gas-over-oil actuators for the pipeline via their regional Fluid System centre of excellence, which is based in Singapore. Manufactured at Rotork’s dedicated Fluid System factory in Italy, the actuators will be fitted to ball valves produced by Audco, Cooper Cameron and PBVS, and packaged with control and

ancillary equipment to meet the specific application demands. The units have already been shipped to Singapore. The Rotork gas operated actuators will be used to open and close various ball valves in sizes ranging up to a maximum 900mm opening. The specified duty is receiving and despatching gas at the related stations situated along the route. Some of the gas operated actuators will also be used for Emergency Shutdown (ESD) procedures. The Rotork gas-over-oil actuators will be used on metering skids within the gas stations to measure volumes and in the despatching of natural gas to Singapore’s domestic industrial pipeline distribution networks. The pipeline project will provide Singapore with its third source of natural gas and is expected to enhance bilateral co-operation and relations between rapidly developing Indonesia and the more established economy of Singapore.

positive experiences with this type of pump in the past were major factors in the customer’s decision to purchase from Allweiler,” said Stegmann. “This is why we were able to secure the order despite tough competition from every other major international manufacturer.”
According to Werner Stegmann from Allweiler’s export department, the contract award was won as much by the company’s reputation as it was by the performance capabilities of the pump. “Our existing references at the Shell Group and their
