You are the chief executive officer of a long-term care facility. Your department heads are demanding to be provided with management information from a computerized system. Your facility does not have its own computer, however, you are currently purchasing services from a provincial association which provides computerized financial reporting. This association is currently involved in a research project asking how they can improve or expand services. Your facility has a modest deficit, and it would not be feasible to fund the cost of individualized facility management information. The provincial funding policy for computers states that any provincial approval for computerized hardware must be cost effective. In light of the quality assurance programs being developed in your facility, the demand for data is increasing.
