A n interesting dental health p rog ra m is bein g carried out in G reenville, S. C ., with D r. W a lter T . M c F a ll as director o f m outh hygiene. T h e p rog ra m includes n ot only corrective w o rk f o r indigent children, but also a com prehensive educational p rogram in the schools. T h e charity dental w o rk f o r one o f the large hospitals is carried on as part o f the w o rk , as w e ll as a course o f instruction to the nurses in training. T h e director addresses lay group s, such as parent-teacher associations and civ ic clubs, in order that citizens o f the com m un ity m ay have a com prehensive idea o f the health w o rk being conducted in their com m un ity.

held an exam ination o f children w h o are to enter sch o o l in September or F ebruary, as part o f the p resch ool physical exam ination cam ­ paign sponsored by the state departm ent o f health and the fed eration o f w o m e n ’s clubs. T h e w o r k was carried on in seven sch ool bu ildin gs in order to fa cilitate things f o r the m others. O f the children exam ined, 33 1 /3 per cent had ca v ity -fre e m ouths. In the m ouths needing dental treatment, there was an average o f five cavities. R ecords o f the general phys­ ical exam inations and o f the dental exam ina­ tions w ere kept by the sch ool nurses, w h o w ill carry on the necessary fo llo w u p . D r. H . J. Crum e, chairm an o f the O ral H y g ien e C om m ittee o f the U nion C ou n ty T u bercu losis A ssociation, reports that nine dentists volun teered their services to m ake a cou n ty dental survey. E ig h ty per cent o f the children in the thirteen com m unities exam ined had , d efectiv e teeth. In the sch ool, various p rojects are being developed to stimulate interest in h a vin g the defects rem edied. One teacher has her pupils take an im ag in ary trip to E urop e w ith clean hands and clean teeth as the ticket. A n oth er has a smile contest every m orn in g . Prizes are offered f o r 100 per cent dental correction s and f o r 100 per cent tooth brush ow nership. ♦The Department of Dental Health Education will be glad to receive items of news along the lines of education in dental or general health.
