CALENDAR OF SOLID STATE EVENTS

Swiss Association of Crystal Growth in Edinburgh on August 24—27, 1975. The Conference will cover all aspects of crystal growth but the sessions on one day will be devoted to Electronic Materials. A number of invited papers will be included in the programme, and contributions are invited from intending participants. Further details wifi be distributed in 1975 to those interested (members automatically receive details) by the Conference chairman. Information: F.W. Ainger, Hon. Sec. Allen Clark Research Centre The Plessey Company Limited Caswell, Towcester, Northants England. 1—5 September 1975 International Conference on Luminescence The 1975 International Conference on Luminescence will be held at the Takanawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo. The Conference is one of a series of international conferences, the first of which was held at Oxford, U.K. (1938). In recent times it has been held every three years; Budapest, Hungary (1966), Delaware, U.S.A. (1969), and Leningrad, U.S.S.R. (1972). The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics is being proposed for sponsorship of the Conference. The scope of the Conference includes all basic theoretical and experimental problems of luminescence phenomena in both inorganic and organic materials, with some emphasis placed on interrelations between the properties of these two classes of materials and between luminescence and other branches of solid state physics and molecular physics. Problems of important applications of luminescence phenomena, but not of those of device technology, are included as well. Information: Prof. Shigeo Shionoya, The Institute for Solid State Physics, The University of Tokyo, Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo 106, Japan.

8—11 September 1975 5th International Symposium on Boron and Borides, Bordeaux, France. The 5th International Symposium on Boron and Borides will be held from Monday, September 8th through Thursday, September 11th, at the University of Bordeaux, Talence (France). It may be considered as a continuation of the meetings previously held at Asberry Park (1959), Paris (1964), Warsaw (1968) and Tbiisi (1972). The Symposium will deal with the following topics: Crystal chemistry of boron modifications and boron-rich borides; Chemical bonding in borides; Chemical bonding in borides; Relationship between crystal structures and physical properties; Industrial applications in the fields of refractory materials, semiconductors, thermionic emission, hard alloys, fibers and composite materials, etc. Papers on the subjects discussed in previous meetings such as, new syntheses, purification, crystal growth and physico-chemical properties are also accepted. The symposium is organized by the Laboratory of Solid State Chemistry of the CNRS, University of Bordeaux, 33405 Talence (France). Information: R. Naslain, Chairman, Laboratoire de Chimie du Solide du C.N.R.S. Université de Bordeaux I, 351 cours de la Liberation, 33405 Talence, France.

9—11 September 1975 Fourth International Conference on “Physical Aspects ofNoise in Solid State Devices” The Conference will be held at the “Leeuwenhorst, Congress Center”, Noorwijkerhout (near Leiden), The Netherlands. This Conference is the fourth of the series. Previous conferences were held at Nottingham (1968), Toulouse (1971) and Gainesville (1972). The scope of the conference includes all basic experimental and
