Additives for Polymers

Exxon Chemical has been appointed by ICI Chemicals and Polymers Ltd as exclusive distributor of speciality plasticizers in Europe, Africa and the Middle East with effect from 1st April 1992. Exxon Chemical currently manufactures and markets its own range of high molecular weight plasticizers, such as JAYFLEX, DINP and DIDP, based on branched 0x0 alcohols. This agreement now expands Exxon Chemical’s PVC plasticizer product range in Europe, Africa and the Middle East to include, beside two speciality phthalates (9 11P and DTDP), a range of four adipates from C8 to C 13 and four grades of linear and branched trimellitates.

CFC-substitute blowing agents Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. and Allied-Signal Inc. have entered into an agreement to develop catalysts that will for PU foams minimize the decomposition of hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) -141b and -123 blowing agents. These materials are currently being evaluated as substitutes for CFC-11 in the manufacture of polyurethane and polyisocyanurate insulating foams. This agreement, which draws upon Air Products’ expertise in polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foam additives, follows Allied-Signal’s findings that these HCFC blowing agents decompose during the foam manufacturing process. Monsanto, the world’s leading supplier of accelerators and anti-oxidants to the rubber industry, has announced a significant expansion to its DPG (N.N’-diphenylguanidine) accelerator facility at Ruabon, in North Wales, (UK).

Akzo relinquish colour concentrates business

Akzo in the Netherlands has reached an agreement to sell its colour concentrates business to M.A. Hanna Co., Cleveland, Ohio, (USA). Akzo says that colour concentrates are no longer part of its core business.

Harcros Chemicals has bought German polymer additives supplier, Greiz-Dolau . The German company is a major supplier of thermoplastic stabilizers and polymer processing aids.
