A
dvanced surface coatings company Hardide Coatings Ltd has strengthened its sales team by appointing Robin Gillham as the business development manager for its global valve, pump and automotive business.
September 2010
The company develops metal coatings based on tungsten carbide. These are used to increase the life of critical parts operating in abrasive, erosive, corrosive and chemically aggressive environments. Gillham joins ex-Praxair UK sales manager Nick King in Hardide’s business development team. King will be responsible for growing the company’s oil and gas, and aerospace sales. Gillham brings 19 years of engineering and technical sales experience to the company. IN BRIEF Klinger UK installs non-contact metrology system Klinger UK has installed Optical Gaging Products Inc’s (OGP) SmartScope MVP400 measuring machine in its Aerospace Test Laboratory and Cutting Centre based at its operations in Bradford. The machine, which uses non-contact metrology, is capable of measuring to an accuracy of within 3 μm. It will be used to measure critical gasket dimensions and compile vital metrology reports for a number of high-profile aerospace clients. Aerospace customers currently insist upon 100% inspection of products, but Klinger and OGP say they are working together to prove statistically that this is not required, which will save money and valuable time. Cross Manufacturing wins ‘Supplier of the Year’ award Cross Manufacturing Ltd of Bath, UK, has won the ‘Supplier of the Year’ award from French, aerospace gas-turbine manufacturer Turbomeca. Components supplied by the UK firm include high-temperature piston sealing rings and retaining rings. Services contributing to the award included specialist assistance to achieve optimum seal performance and meeting strict, new delivery schedules. HSE inspection programme targets ageing offshore installations A new inspection programme targeted at offshore oil and gas installations on the UK continental shelf is under way to ensure that ageing infrastructure does not adversely affect safety. After 40 years of oil and gas production in the UK sector of the North Sea, more than half of the fixed platforms have exceeded their original design life, or soon will. Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will visit installations and check safety management plans to ensure that ageing is taken into account. The objectives of the Ageing & Life Extension Inspection Programme (Key Programme 4) are: to identify duty holders’ approaches to the management of the risks to asset integrity associated with ageing and life extension; to raise awareness of the need for specific consideration of ageing issues as a distinct activity within the asset integrity management process; to enforce an appropriate programme of remedial action where necessary; and to work with the offshore industry to establish a common approach to the management of ageing installations. The promotion of good practice, liaison with industry bodies and sharing of experience through seminars and workshops are also key aims of the programme, which will run until September 2013.
