he article “Arthroscopy of the knee: A perioperative nursing challenge” provides the basis for this AORNJournal home study program. The program’s behavioral objectives were prepared by Judith M. Mathias, RN, BS, clinical editor, and the examination was prepared by Deborah H. Aiello, RN, BSN, with consultation from Diane Schmaus, RN, MS, program specialist, continuing education. Each applicant who successfully completes the program will receive a certificate of completion indicating the number of contact hours earned. The home study contact hours/continuing education units will also be included on an annual transcript for the preceding year ending June 30. They are mailed each August. The deadline for this program is Oct 3 1, 1986. Registered nurses can earn 2 contact hours by
demonstrating achievement of the behavioral objectives. Nurses who wish to earn credit must achieve a 70% score on the multiple choice examination and send it with a completed application form and appropriate fee to: AORN Accounting Department c/o Home Study Program 10170 E Mississippi Denver, CO 80231 AORN is accredited by the Western Regional Accrediting Committee of the American Nurses’ Association as a provider and approval body for continuing education for nursing. Behavioral Objectives After reading and studying the article on arthroscopy of the knee, the nurse will be able to: ( I ) identify the indications for arthroscopy of the knee, (2) discuss the advantages and disadvantages of arthroscopy of the knee, (3) discuss basic knowledge of the anatomy of the knee, (4) demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures for an injured knee, (5) demonstrate knowledge of perioperative nursing interventions for the arthroscopy patient, and (6) identify complications associated with arthroscopy of the knee.
