Artificial hypothermia is a method of protecting a body from hypoxia during operations on open heart. We worked out a new method 'Pulmonary hypothermia' for cooling and rewarming a body by liquified pulmonary ventilation and liquified inhalation narcosis. According to this method cooling and rewarming is performed through alveolary and capillary membrane while contacting cooled or ,Yvarmed up fluorocarbon. Used in hypothermia fluorocarbon carries out three functions: gas exchange, narcotic drugs transport, and acts as a heat-exchanger between a body and external medium. 120 experiments with mongrel dogs have been carried out.
