APhA First Award winner Linda S. Reynolds (left) based her research project on the analysis of the cardiac glycosides, digitoxin and digoxin, which she extracted from her own digitalis plants. Linda's project had won eight local and regional awards prior to its exhibition at the International Science Fair. Honorable Mention awards went to Laura L. Weaver (below, left) for her study of the safety and efficacy of Thalidomide, and Mark S. Folts, who did in vivo experiments on the psychopharmacological effects of Valium (diazepam). Mark's work included the designing of unique apparatus for studying behavioral changes in rats.

he eastern, midwestern and western regional meetings of the industrial pharmaceutical technology section of the APhA Academy of ,P harmaceutical Sciences have been calendared for the first half of October. Participants in the eastern meeting will convene October 4 in Philadelphia to hear presentations on a variety of subjects including the physical-chemical properties of ampicillin and their effect on drug availability, the enhancement of drug absorption through the use of complexing agents, and microencapsulation via coacervation phase-separation. Arnold Marcus of Bristol-Meyers will base his address on the question, "Who Says Research and Development Can't be Planned?" Lruncheon speaker John Clough, commentator for WCAU radto, Philadelphia, will draw from politics and the current election in his address ,to the group. O'Hare Inn in Chicago is the site of the seventh annual midwest IPT section regional meeting, October 7. . Agenda topics scheduled include discussion on product development for

international markets, instrumental approach to particle counting in pharmaceutical liquids, use of laminar flow in the pharmaceutical industry, oral inhalation aerosols, microencapsulation: the pharmaceutics of coacervation and film coating technology. Luncheon topic will center on moral implications in tomorrow's technological society with Sunder Joshi of Roosevelt University and College of DuPage, the speaker. Arrangements chairman is J.
