BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS Alaska, Hawaii, and Illinois call collect 312-328-6700. Want something yummy for your tummy and stimulating for your brain? This videotape, originally produced for PBS by a grant from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, has it! The program is based on the seven Dietary Guidelines for Americans developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Each part highlights one or more of the guidelines while also stressing the interrelationship of all the guidelines in a healthy diet. A provocative health and nutrition question related to a specific guideline starts each 4 1/z minute segment, followed by a noted home economist who answers the question as she demonstrates the preparation of a main dish, snack, or dessert. The content of the videotapes is consistent with the new (1985) revised edition of the Dietary Guidelines. However, the new revised guidelines have some differences in the order and wording of specific guidelines. Educators ordering these tapes are advised to explain the revision and to distribute copies of the 1985 version to the audience. The only major drawback of the series is its cost. Otherwise, the tapes are excellent in that they provide information on good nutrition in basic terms and apply it to the preparation of foods that are easy and fun to make. Janet A.
