November 18,1989 Techniques in Gynecologic Surgery Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Arizona This 1-day slide and video conference for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists will feature recent advances in the management of ovarian and vulvar malignant diseases and presacral tumors. A practical review of pelvic anatomy in relationship to various gynecologic surgical procedures will also be presented. July 12 to 14,1989 Laboratory Diagnosis of Viral Infections Rochester, Minnesota This workshop will be of interest to laboratory directors and technologists involved in the processing of specimens and in the development of tests for the rapid and sensitive diagnosis of viral infections. Topics of interest include the selection and collection of appropriate specimens for culture; understanding the variables of the rapid shell vial and roll-tube culture assays for the most sensitive and specific detection of cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and other viral infections; examination and interpretation of specific immunofluorescence patterns of viral infected cells; the serologic diagnosis of viral infections; and interpretation of test results for the clinical management of patients, particularly those treated at children's hospitals and tertiary-care medical centers. July 27 to 29,1989 Clinical Applications of Cytochemistry and Immunocytochemistry Rochester, Minnesota This workshop is intended for pathologists, hematologists, technologists, and histotechnologists who are actively involved in the preparation, processing, and interpretation of cytochemical and immunocytochemical staining tests for the diagnosis of neoplastic diseases. The course will increase the attendees' proficiency in selecting the proper tests for the diagnosis of acute and chronic leukemia, lymphomas, and other neoplastic diseases and will enhance their understanding of the role of such tests in clinical practice. Proper interpretation of the results of staining techniques, troubleshooting, cytochemical and immunocytochemical methods, the use of cell kinetics and flow cytometry, and molecular genetic and cytogenetic considerations will be reviewed.
