CONFEDERATION OF AUSTRALIAN CRITICAL CARE NURSES JOURNAL
STATE ROUND-UP NEW SOUTH WALES • CNSA generated intense discussions amongst participants. A special vote of thanks must go to the organising committee of the conference for all their hard work, and to all those who presented papers.
The last three months have been very busy but have also proved to be a very rewarding period for the CNSA. The CNSAIANZICS NSW State Branch Conference held in Newcastle 15th-17th March, 1991 was a resounding success, not only educationally but also socially. The nursing and medical papers covered a wide variety of topics within the field of critical care. The guest speaker for the nursing seminar day was Margaret MacDonald from the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, who presented an interesting and informative research paper on occipital pressure ulceration. Other speakers included Ellen Pracy who discussed the role of the Ecmo Co-ordinator and Shirley-Ann Wilson who presented issues associated with analgesic therapy in critical care areas. All papers presented at the conference were received enthusiastically and
The educational program for the year is now well underway. I am happy to report that attendance levels at the education meetings have greatly improved. At the recent Ventilation Workshop day there were over eighty participants registered. The papers presented were of an extremely high standard. Included in the program were topics related to the physiology of ventilation, work of breathing and a discussion on new modes of ventilation. Those who attended the day were also given the opportunity to view the state of the art ventilators. All in all the day was well reviewed by those who attended.
I hope that members will continue their strong support of these meetings, as they provide an excellent opportunity for participants to meet nurses from other units, and to exchange information and ideas. Unfortunately we were unable to secure the Brighton Resort as our venue for the ECG workshop in July. The new venue for the workshop is: THE PARKROYAL
