Academy. He has a deep commitment to education and has served on the Academy’s scientific assembly council. He is also an experienced editor. He was the associate editor of the JAAD under my predecessor, Dr Richard L. Dobson, and has been the editor of the Yearbook of Dermatology, now the Yearbook of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, for many years. I know he will bring The Blue Journal to ever higher heights. The production of each issue of the Journal depends upon many individuals: the managing editor (Melissa Derby); deputy editors (Karen Wiss and Tom Cropley); associate editors, assistant editors, and editorial board members (whose names appear on the masthead); peer reviewers (who are listed and thanked in this issue of the Journal)—and our authors. I thank them, and I thank the professionals at Mosby and at Elsevier with whom we have worked: Publishers Carol Trumbold, Cheryl Smart, Gretchen Murphy, and Terrie Duhadway, who made us feel that the JAAD is even more important than the Super Bowl (and I can prove that, Terrie). We have had superb issue managers at Mosby/ Elsevier: Mary Lawton, Jonathan Cornwell, and Susan Kell. It was fun, and challenging, to try to

get as many inconsistencies by them as I could, and I thank them. I thank the American Academy of Dermatology for the privilege of editing The Blue Journal and for its enlightened and iron-clad respect for editorial independence. I also commend and thank the Academy’s superb professional staff. I dedicate this essay to the memory of Dr Murray Zimmerman, a dermatologist and scholar whom I never met but who became a pen pal because of the Journal; to the memory of Dr Phil Anderson, whose advice was always fun; and to the memory of my first teachers in dermatology: Dr Edmund Klein and Dr Thomas B. Fitzpatrick. And in conclusion, I thank you, faithful readers. I wish you much benefit and pleasure from the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology for years to come. Jeffrey D.
