news product and services Dual cartridge seal for general industry The 4620P dual cartridge seal from John Crane is a compact, general duty O-ring cartridge seal which features an integral pumping ring for use in a wide variety of industrial applications. The seal is suitable for use with close-coupled pumps, vertical water pumps, and ANSI/DIN standard pumps. It incorporates an elastomer O-ring which functions as the dynamic secondary sealing member, plus an inboard primary and mating ring design that allows for ID and OD pressurization and enables unpressurized tandem or pressurized double seal operation. The pumping ring
should eliminate the need to carry excessive spares stocks and the preset delivery procedure should help ease the installation process.
• The new seal compliments John Crane’s existing 4610 single O-ring cartridge seal, which has recently had two new sizes added to its range. The original 70 mm diameter size has now been extended to include a 100 mm 4610 seal and a 140 mm unit making the single O-ring cartridge seal suitable for a wider variety of industrial applications. www.worldpumps.com - RES No.213
Software tool for designing process systems A new software tool from Pumpex, the PUMPEXplorer USA version 2.2, provides OEMs operating in the field of submersible wastewater, trash, and rental pumps with an extensive database for designing process systems and ensuring efficient pump selection. Version 2.2 includes a frictionloss calculator that allows specifiers to find out automatically the correct Pumpex pump size and specification for any given application. The calculations are made by analysing system construction and liquid variables, entered by the user. The software tool maps the entered piping scheme to test the friction loss in a given system and then relays this information back to the user

enabling fast design alteration or pump spec modifications to be made in the search for optimum efficiency. The PUMPEXplorer USA version 2.2 software tool includes product brochures, technical data sheets, characteristic pump curves, dimension prints, and CAD drawings, enabling most projects to be simulated in an effective manner. A maximum of eight pumps running simultaneously in a system can be calculated so large systems can be catered for. In addition, an integral project management module can order and arrange the project details, which should make reference access and data storage easier for the pump specifier. www.worldpumps.com - RES No.214
The Compact series from PCM Pumps is designed for transfer duties in the food and drink industry and other industrial sectors.
The Compact Series of progressive cavity pumps from PCM Pumps is designed for low- pressure transfer duties in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors and can achieve flow rates of up to 15,000 l/hr.
the rotor. This simple arrangement should ensure relatively easy maintenance requirements and protect the integrity of the product during operational use.
The series can be specified with fixed or variable speed drives to meet end user requirements and is suitable for Clean-In-Place (CIP) applications where hygiene is an important consideration. Instead of being fixed, the stator on the Compact series is left floating in the housing. According to the manufacturers, this provides better toleration against dry running and reduces wear and tear.
Seven models are available in the range, each with a discharge pressure of 4 bar. The smallest model in the range, the MR110C4, offers dispensing control for applications that require precise dosages down to single figure flow measurements. A claimed silent operation and constant pulse-free flow should also ensure that the range is accurate and easy to work with in the factory environment.
