Poole & Kent awarded Miami pump station construction contract

MCOR Group Inc subsidiary Poole & Kent Co is to build Miami Dade County’s Master Pump Station No 3 in Miami, Florida, USA. The Master Pump Station No 3 is a pumping facility that will help expand downtown Miami’s sewer capacity. The work will include constructing two multilevel structures. The first is a pump station building which houses four 300 horsepower centrifugal pumps, and the second is a generator building with a 1500 kilowatt standby emergency diesel generator. Additional work includes installation of mechanical and yard piping, a hydraulic reservoir system, mechanical controls, fuel systems, switchgear, transformers, motor control centres, fibre optic cables and electrical and instrumentation for a complete operating facility.
Degrémont extends Cairo wastewater treatment O&M contract
A
fter designing, building and operating Cairo’s Gabal El Asfar 2A wastewater treatment plant since 2005, Degrémont has won the tender launched by Egypt’s Construction Authority for Potable Water and Wastewater CAPW2 to operate the facility and maintain the equipment, for an additional five-year period, under a E28 million contract. The Gabal 2A wastewater treatment plant has the capacity to treat 500 000 m3 per day. It can produce biogas from sewage sludge, which enables it to be 65% energy self-sufficient once the biogas has been turned into power.
Hyflux explores opportunities in Nigeria through JV

yflux International Pte Ltd (HIPL) has signed a joint venture agreement with Tolaram Corporation
Pte Ltd to explore opportunities for the development of membrane-based water treatment plants in Nigeria. HIPL and Tolaram will hold equal equity stakes in the Singapore-registered Yewa Water Company Pte Ltd joint venture company. Yewa Water Company Pte Ltd owns the majority stake in Yewa Water Company Ltd, a company incorporated in Nigeria and that will be used to undertake water projects in the country. Tolaram is a Singapore-based multiindustry company engaged in food, paper and packaging, textiles, energy, logistics and real estate businesses. In Nigeria, Tolaram is already involved in the distribution of food products and provision of logistics services, as well as development of infrastructure projects.
Whittier replaces pumping station

ichael Baker International’s RBF Consulting will provide Los Angeles’s City of Whittier/ Whittier Utility Authority (WUA) with engineering design services for and construction management of the replacement of WUA Pumping Plant No 2. The US$13.7 million project includes a new 18.9 MGD pump station, two 2.2 MG abovegrade steel reservoirs, and a 6400 sq ft pump building. The new on-site and off-site facilities will include improvements to system operations by providing fully automated controls for the well field and the new pumping plant.
Blackstone Energy forms global water development platform

nergy-focused private equity business Blackstone Energy Partners has set up Global Water Development Partners, a new water-investment and development platform. Global Water Development Partners will support companies with capital to create long-term and sustainable water facilities focused on the development of desalination facilities and large-scale wastewater treatment for industrial customers, and to identify, develop, finance, construct and operate large scale independent water development projects globally.
