The product is the latest extension to Clariant’s range of TexCare soil release and surface protection solutions for all kinds of powder detergent formulations. It is Clariant’s answer to the market’s requests to keep whites white, for deeply clean clothes and to retain brilliant colours. Gattefosse unveils sustainable texturizing agent after achieving RSPO supply chain certification French cosmetics company Gattefosse has gone a step further in its sustainability approach and is now RSPO Supply Chain Certified. After working on the implementation of new sourcing and production procedures, Gattefosse was audited by Bureau Veritas, an RSPO-approved certification body, and finalized its certification in Feb 2013. Gattefosse subsequently introduced a new ingredient composed of 100% certified sustainable palm oil (PO) and palm kernel oil (PKO) ingredients during in-cosmetics 2013 in Paris. Lipocire A SG is the first texturizing agent to be RSPO certified, Gattefosse says. The SG suffix stands for ‘Segregated’, denoting that it comes from the RSPO supply chain certification system; the PO & PKO come from RSPO-certified sources only and are separated throughout the supply chain without mixing with conventional palm ingredients. Solvay to reinforce its global leadership in soda ash Solvay plans to reinforce its position as a world leader in soda ash and improve the activity’s long-term profitability by reducing its European cost base. It will focus on ‘a breakthrough competitiveness improvement’ at its key synthetic soda ash plants in Europe, while expanding its trona mining-based operations in North America. Solvay has been working on an action plan to address different regional market dynamics for soda ash, used in glass and detergents, among other applications. While demand worldwide has been growing at global GDP rates, demand in Europe has been suffering from the economic downturn, which has caused structural overcapacity. In North America, Solvay is gradually expanding its production capacity by about 12% at Green River, Wyoming, where it operates best-in-class tronamining industrial assets. In Europe, Solvay will run an in-depth transformation programme at its 6 main soda ash plants. The breakthrough improvement in the production of synthetic soda ash will strengthen its position as the region’s cost leader. More specifically, Solvay plans to address structural overcapacity in the Mediterranean basin by closing its soda ash unit in Povoa, Portugal, by Jan 2014. Furthermore, in Rosignano, Italy, the group will run production capacity according to market needs on top of making significant productivity improvements. It will also use the full potential of its synthetic plants in Torrelavega, Spain and in Devnya, Bulgaria more efficiently to enhance its competitiveness both in Europe and export markets. These European restructuring measures will affect about 450 job positions by 2016, including Povoa. These measures will

Presperse presents Acqua Pelle AP-300 Presperse’s latest technology, Acqua Pelle AP-300, is a novel, waterbased, polymeric thickener that is activated by salts. Unlike traditional acrylic thickeners, this activation property allows formulators to create novel, non-pilling, emulsion and surfactant systems without the formulation limitations typically experienced in the presence of salt and salt-based materials, it reports. For emulsion plus cleansing systems, the ‘salt set-back’ is a concept of the past. Acqua Pelle fulfils the industry need for salt plus pH tolerant thickeners, lending itself to the next generation of creative, consumer desirable formulations, the company claims. Recently, Presperse R&D made a patent-pending discovery concerning the synergy between Acqua Pelle technology and low levels of surfactants. This synergy allows the formulation of higher viscosity and unique rheology products using lower levels of both thickeners and surfactants with and without the addition of common viscosity-adjusting electrolytes such as sodium chloride.
