WEFTEC 2012 opens for business W

EFTEC 2012, the Water Environment Federation’s Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference, will be held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center, USA from 29 September – 3 October 2012. consumption. All systems have been thirdparty validated and treat a wide range of flows and water quality.

Enviro-Care (Booth 4217)

WEFTEC will be held in New Orleans from 29 September - 3 October 2012.

WEFTEC® is the biggest meeting of its kind in North America. In 2011 the event in Los Angeles attracted 17,000 attendees and the exhibition hosted 923 companies covering 26,400 square metres (284,000 square feet) of floor space. Back in New Orleans, this year’s event promises to be just as successful with almost 1,000 exhibitors in attendance. Filtration+Separation introduces a few of this year’s exhibitors.

Aqua Metrology Systems (Booth 7313) Aqua Metrology Systems’ THM-100 Trihalomethane Analyzer offers the industry the first continuous, unattended, online monitor proven as accurate as traditional laboratory techniques. Self-calibrating with onboard THM standards and enabled with both 4-20 mA interfaces for SCADA notification and a USB for data retrieval and system upgrades, the system is designed to operate for up to three months without intervention. THM monitoring, along with other operational parameters, enable cost savings related to timing and amounts of source

blending, coagulants, flocculants, disinfection agents, activated carbon, energy and other consumables by bringing the process ‘under control’. With continuous monitoring, any changes in THM levels can be rapidly identified and remediation processes changed accordingly.

Aquionics (Booth 5921) Aquionics will display its compact and efficient UV disinfection systems. UV disinfection eliminates microorganisms on a cellular level, making water safe for reintroduction into the environment. Aquionics’ systems pass wastewater through closed vessel or open channel configurations, exposing it to light from low or medium pressure, high-output amalgam lamps. Automatic quartz sleeve cleaning systems reduce maintenance and optimise disinfection. Simple intelligent control software allows facilities to access information on system performance and customise operating parameters to work with plant controls. A power stepping feature regulates power to the lamps, adjusting input power as needed for adequate disinfection and efficient power

Enviro-Care and SAVI S.r.l. has introduced the Flo-Septage Station DM. This is the first piece of equipment that has been designed specifically for septage receiving. The DM unit is designed to eliminate sedimentation. A dual drive system allows the screen basket and auger to run independently for better capture and faster removal of solids. The screen unit sits at a 25 degree angle of inclination that enables the screen to process more solids and shorten tanker unloading time.

Koch Membrane Systems, Inc. (Booth 4543) Koch Membrane Systems, Inc. will introduce the latest evolution of PURON® submerged hollow fibre modules at WEFTEC 2012. The PURON HF module is designed for tertiary treatment, high solids water applications, RO pre-treatment, and surface water treatment. Based on the same singleheader, central aeration design as the PURON MBR module, the PURON HF module produces consistent, high-quality effluent that meets or exceeds most regulatory requirements. With a packing density increase of more than 44% and robust PVDF fibres, the PURON HF offers a reduced system footprint, high flux, and lower capital costs. Completing the PURON family of water treatment solutions are PURON PLUS preengineered systems. The PURON PLUS MBR packaged system is a skid-mounted packaged plant that provides customers with a full scope of supply, from pre-screening and biological

to conventional wastewater treatment plants is the relatively high energy demand of MBR systems. The MCP process also allows for an almost chemical free operation and even more importantly a significant enhancement of flux. In turn, not only the membrane area required can be reduced (or the output of an existing BIO-CEL® installation increased) but also the required volume of the filtration tanks will be significantly smaller. Hence, the overall energy consumption can be reduced substantially. Studies show that the mechanical cleaning process can result in savings in energy and chemicals of up to 27%. In addition, when using an MBR with MCP the process stability as well as the operational safety is increased. The MCP process.

QUA (Booth 2753) treatment through the final membrane clarification step. These pre-engineered MBR plants offer a reduced footprint, flexible layout, and a design optimised to meet most stringent environmental discharge regulations. The company also offers low-cost, flexible PURON PLUS MBR modular systems.

LANXESS (Booth 2006) LANXESS is now offering reverse osmosis membrane elements, in addition to ion exchange arrays, to provide a one-stopsource for water treatment solutions. The new Lewabrane® reverse osmosis membrane chemistry offers an enhanced polymerisation degree of the polyamide layer. This improves the mechanical and chemical stability of the thin film barrier layer offering greater durability. Additionally, the negative charge on the membrane surface has been reduced leading to a lower cationic adsorption (fouling) on the membrane surface. The Lewabrane® membrane chemistry provides very low salt passage resulting in lower salt load on downstream ion exchange and EDI applications. The improved durability, reduced fouling, and low salt passage offer lower cost of operation for water treatment operations. New comprehensive design software, designated LewaPlus, can calculate Lewabrane® reverse osmosis and Lewatit® ion exchange arrays inside the same software, allowing the designer to quickly optimise both the RO and IX for the water treatment plant.

QUA® develops and manufactures both Q-SEP® ultrafiltration membranes and FEDI® electrodeionisation stacks. These advanced membrane products are used in the water, wastewater, and water reuse markets. Sold exclusively through a global network of qualified OEMs, QUA’s product offering includes its fractional electrodeionisation stack, and their NSF Certified Q-SEP® ultrafiltration membranes. The patented FEDI electrodeionisation stacks, which have superior hardness tolerance compared to the other electrodeionisation products on the market, and a dual voltage process allows for a higher flexibility and tolerance to inlet water conditions, thus lowering the risk of scaling, and improving the plant’s design economics and reliability. FEDI stacks are available in three different models which can be applied either for higher hardness tolerance or high water flow rates. The Q-SEP® ultrafiltration membranes are manufactured by the patented ‘cloud point precipitation process’ which incorporates highstrength, hollow fibres with uniform pore size distribution and deliver superior performance. The Q-SEP® ultrafiltration membranes are made from a hydrophilic polyether sulfone (PES) material with excellent low fouling characteristics.

a new, improved, upgraded model of its MicroDynamics® open channel microwave UV disinfection solutions. Specially designed for wastewater and reuse applications, the new solution offers greater disinfection capacity in a smaller footprint compared to previous designs. MicroDynamics technology uses microwaves to energise low-pressure, high-output electrode-less lamps for water and wastewater disinfection. Systems are available in open channel designs for the UV disinfection of wastewater or closed vessel designs as an ideal solution for both wastewater and drinking water treatment.
