NEWS shielding products, recently held a ground-breaking ceremony to initiate the construction of its new manufacturing facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. Bal Seal, a privately-owned company with headquarters in Foothill Ranch, California, and offices in Europe and Asia, announced its plans to build a new facility in Colorado Springs in December 2011. The firm already leases a smaller building in the city, where it employs 48 people. But a projected doubling of sales and significant increase in demand for its products were among the factors behind its decision to expand. Global sealants market shows strong growth
M
arketResearch.com has published the third edition of ‘Adhesives and Sealants: Global Markets’. According to the sudy, after several years of stagnant growth the adhesives and sealants market is undergoing a period of recovery and ‘‘rebirth’’. The global market was valued at nearly $22 billion in 2011 – up from $19.5 billion in 2006. Sealants – both structural and non-structural – comprise the fastest growing sectors of the industry. The five-year compounded annual growth rates since 2006 of structural and non-structural sealants are 3.7% and 3.1%, respectively. Contributing to the increased demand is the continuing economic recovery in rapidly growing emerging markets in South-East Asia, says the company. Energy conservation and the continued development of renewable energy sources are also fuelling the need for adhesives and sealants in the development of new products.

Lamons renews API certification and now also complies with API 17D Lamons, a US-based gasket and bolt supplier that is part of TriMas Corp, has announced that not only has its API 6A licence been renewed, but it now also complies with the API 17D standard which enables it to manufacture SBX sub-sea rings in complete conformance with API monogram recognition. The firm says that these two certifications reinforce its position as a reputable manufacturer of API ring-type joint gaskets. Earlier this year the company’s operations in Beaumont, Texas, USA, became the first TriMas location to become OHSAS 18001 certified. Henkel makes key appointment Carsten Knobel has been appointed Executive Vice President Finance and Purchasing, Henkel Ag & Co KGaA. AS-Schneider develops leak-proof system Armaturenfabrik Franz Schneider GmbH + CoKg (AS-Schneider) has introduced a bellows-sealed valve for hazardous media, which it describes as a “technically leak-proof ” system. In order to move the valve-stem upwards and downwards without causing a leak, a multi-layer, metal bellow is used. This is welded on one side to the stem and on the other side to the valve bonnet, which means that leakage along the valve stem is not possible, claims the firm. Systems with pressureclass ratings of PN 100, PN 250 and PN 400 are available. More information: Web: www.as-schneider.com
