Energy Recovery acquires Pump Engineering Energy Recovery Inc has completed the acquisition of New Boston, Michigan-based Pump Engineering LLC. Under the terms of the agreement, Energy Recovery paid Pump Engineering shareholders US$20 million in cash plus one million shares of Energy Recovery common stock. Pump Engineering specializes in centrifugal turbine energy-saving technology for seawater and brackish desalination applications,

while Energy Recovery designs and develops energy recovery devices for desalination. Energy Recovery’s PX Pressure Exchanger (PX) device is a rotary positive displacement pump that recovers energy from the high pressure reject stream of seawater reverse osmosis systems at up to 98% efficiency. Pump Engineering will now operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Recovery.

Hayward Tyler Services completes pump overhaul Hayward Tyler Services (HTS) has overhauled three Hayward Tyler wet wound boiler circulation pumps for NV ElektriciteitsProduktiemaatschappij Zuid (EPZ) at its solid fuel fired power plant in The Netherlands.

The order includes seven sets of cooling water pumps, boiler feed water pumps, boiler feed water booster pumps and boiler feed water start-up pumps. Pump delivery will be completed in April 2010.

The contract involved the removal, overhaul and re-installation of three boiler circulation pumps in collaboration with

EPZ’s on-site maintenance team. The boiler circulation pumps were originally supplied in 1984. The 5-week project was delivered ahead of schedule, with HTS increasing the meantime between maintenance to four years, therefore reducing the overall operating cost of the plant. www.haywardtyler.com

Grundfos partners with DB Services in Germany Germany’s Grundfos GmbH and DB Services have signed a co-operation contract covering technical facility management and industrial services. DB Services will sell Grundfos products and services to internal and external customers through its nationwide network of trained employees. Under a separate contract, DB Services North will also take over

facility management of Grundfos Germany’s biggest production site in Wahlstedt. “For me these contracts between two leading companies highlight the start of a close and long-term co-operation, which will be a source of further ideas and activities,” said Hermann Brennecke, CEO of Grundfos Germany. www.grundfos.com

base of Torishima pumps in the Middle East. Parent company Torishima Pump Mfg has invested ¥1 billion in the new venture, which will employ 50 people. Torishima Service Solutions is expected to generate annual revenues of ¥50 billion.

The pumps are so large that the boiler feed water pump units have a drive rating of 15 000 kW. The maximum flow rate per cooling water pump unit is in excess of 72 900 m3/hr. HHI-EMD says that it won the pump order because of the technical support it was able to offer the customer during the design stages of the pumping station and the intake structure. www.hhi.co.kr

New leadership at Colfax and Wilo Colfax Corp and Wilo SE have appointed a new president and CEO, and a new executive board chairman, respectively. At Colfax, board member Clay Kiefaber has been named president and CEO, succeeding John Young who has left the company. Young, who served as president and CEO since 2000, also resigned from the Colfax board but is expected to remain an advisor to the company. Kiefaber has served on the Colfax board of directors since the company’s initial public offering

(IPO) in 2008. Most recently, Kiefaber was a group president at Masco Corp, where he was responsible for a US$2.8 billion group of architectural coatings, windows, and spa business units. Meanwhile Oliver Hermes has been appointed chairman of the executive board of the German pump manufacturer Wilo SE. Hermes replaces Thomas Schweisfurth who left the Dortmund-headquartered pump manufacturer last year. Hermes has been responsible for Wilo’s Finance, Control and Human Resources functions at board level since October 2006.
