Additives for Polymers
May 1995
In many applications, recycled plastics that are stabilized with Recyclostab perform as well as stabilized virgin polymer for years. In one test, milk crates made from recycled HDPE and stabilized with Recyclostab performed as well, and looked as good, as crates made with virgin stabilized HDPE after four years of testing. A brochure, called Recyclostab, New Life for Plastics, which includes test data illustrating enhanced stability performance of polypropylene, HDPE, LDPE and mixed recycled plastics restabilized with Recyclostab, is available. White masterbatch operating costs
reduces
A white masterbatch which is said to greatly reduce the problem of extruder die build-up, is now available from Cabot Plastics for the production of blown polyethylene film. The new product, Plaswite PE7474, has similar opacifying performance to Cabot’s existing white film masterbatch, PE7024, but, says Cabot, with a much improved ability to prevent die deposit. Its performance has been extensively tested by Cabot, and the product is said to have proved extremely satisfactory. PE7474 should enable film processors to reduce operating costs through reduced clean down stoppages. Its melt flow index of 1 lg/lOmin at 2.16kg/190°C will allow easy dilution. The masterbatch has been mainly designed for manufacturing general-purpose films for products such as packaging and carrier bags. It is compatible with most types of polythene, including blends, and can be added direct into the extruder hopper, or preblended with resin in a blender, says the supplier.
