Milliken’s Hyperform® HPN-20E nucleating agent for polyethylene has also recently been granted food contact notification (FCN), opening up new options for customers. The FCN covers Conditions A-H, allowing broad usage across a range of food contact applications. Introduced last year [ADPO, July 2006], Hyperform HPN20E imparts a range of benefits to PE, including improved clarity, physical properties, and moisture/vapour barrier and seal performance, Milliken says. It can also be used as a nucleating agent for PP.

Italmatch acquires Akzo Nobel plant in Italy Italmatch Chemicals SpA recently completed the acquisition of Akzo Nobel’s manufacturing plant located in Arese, north of Milan, and of the related Lube and Specialty Chemicals business. Among other things, the plant manufactures fatty acid amides for use in lube oil and polymer additive markets, and is also fully equipped to handle phosphorus trichloride and manufacture phosphorous acid and its derivatives. The key criterion for investing in Arese is the possibility to exploit synergies with Italmatch’s existing operations, both in terms of market presence, with particular regard to increasing and complementing the product portfolio in the lube and plastic markets, as well as in terms of technological synergies. According to managing director Sergio Iorio, the acquisition is a further step to grow Italmatch as a leading company in speciality markets, especially in the lube oil and plastic additives sectors.
