New multifunctional surfactant Air Products and Chemicals Inc has launched Surfynol 2502 surfactant, an environment-friendly surfactant for fountain solutions, packaging inks and other applications. With the new Surfynol 2502, wetting and defoamer performance are improved. The new line also continuously enhances product quality and processing conditions such as foam destabilisation, dynamic surface tension (DST) and system stability. Surfynol enhances DST in packaging inks and lowers foam while preserving bond strength adhesion, viscosity and gloss.

Dragoco India’s new plant goes on stream The Rup 185 M fragrances and flavours plant of the Rup 860 M Dragoco India was inaugurated on 3 May 2002. The new plant can produce 3000 tonnes of fragrances and flavours and is located some 10 km further south of the existing plant at Perungudi, a suburb of Chennai. Innovations drive chemical specialities [2 tables] Leading marketers are optimistic that new product introductions will result in profit growth for their household product business as consumers pay more for chemical specialities. Companies are creating more value for consumers by offering products that last longer, work fast and are easier to use than the previous generations of products. Information Resources Inc (IRI) of Chicago has reported a 3.5% decline in total sales of household cleaning products in food, drug and mass merchandisers, to slightly less than $1.75 bn for the year ended 27 Jan 2002. The downward trend was blocked in the categories where there are more innovations. Air freshener sales climbed 8.6% to $685 M, while sales of household cleaner cloths jumped 45% to over $161 M. The invention is in a bar format containing specific salts of protic acid, polyalkylene glycol and fatty acid soaps. Henkel relaunches Fa toilet soap Henkel Spic India Ltd (Henkel) has reintroduced the Fa range of toilet soaps since its objectives in terms of market share and volumes were not achieved. The soaps that were launched in Apr 2000 in three variants – Caribbean Lemon, Aqua and Exotic Garden have been reintroduced after changing the product formulation, packaging and graphics. One of the variants Exotic Garden has been removed and a new variant Wild Sandal has been introduced. Also, the price has now been reduced to Rup 12/75 gm from Rup 15/75 gm. The relaunch will be effective in the northern, eastern and western markets in the first phase and in the southern markets in the second phase. Henkel expects the new look Fa range to increase its market share to 3% from the earlier 1.5% in the Rup 4.5 bn premium soaps segment. The reintroduction will be supported by an advertising campaign on media. The Fa umbrella brand also includes deos and talcs. Fa has reportedly a 10% share in the Rup 1 bn deo sprays market and hopes to augment it to 15% by Jul 2002.
