...Continued from front page Schlumberger,” said John DiBella, CEO of Enviro Voraxial Technology. “This agreement provides EVTN with a path to manufacture and sell the Voraxial into the oil and gas market through Schlumberger and to potentially leverage this success into additional growth opportunities in other industries where the Voraxial can have significant benefits in treating and cleaning wastewater, such as mining, sewage and industrial wastewater.” Enviro Voraxial Technology is the developer and manufacturer of the Voraxial Separator, a unique, patented, in-line turbo-separator that separates large volumes of solids and liquids with different specific gravities and without the need of a pressure drop. The Voraxial is capable of simultaneously separating up to three components, such as oil, water and sand. It can be used as a stand-alone separator or incorporated with other equipment to provide a complete turnkey solution that allows customers to treat a variety of fluid streams while reducing treatment cost and increasing separation efficiency.

presence especially for recurring sales in the aftermarket. “This is an exciting new journey as we work together to build the next generation of filtration,” said Tom Williams, chairman and CEO of Parker Hannifin. “Our enhanced filtration presence is expected to add resilience to our bottom line, improve operating margins, and enable us to meet long-term growth goals, strengthening our ability to achieve top quartile financial performance.” “The combination deeply expands our ability to help make our world cleaner and safer while equipping our team members with new opportunities to innovate and grow,” said Rob Malone, Parker Hannifin’s Filtration Group president. “The acquisition also offers significant operating synergies from our combined strengths to better serve our customers.” An integration team has been formed including employees from both Parker Hannifin and Clarcor, and a detailed integration plan is underway designed to capture synergies and allow for a smooth transition of the two organizations.

NASA funds colourchanging air filters for spacesuits

S

erionix Inc, a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign startup, has received a US$750 000 contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to fund the continued development of filters to remove toxic gases from nextgeneration spacesuit life support systems. Serionix creates high-performance filters based on a proprietary adsorptive coating technology called Colorfil™, which changes colour as it removes toxic chemicals and odours from air, while killing viruses, bacteria and mold. Through a colour change, Colorfil lets users know when the filters are working (pink) and when they aren’t (yellow). NASA has awarded funding to evaluate Colorfil technology for incorporation into the next generation of spacesuit and Personal Life Support System (PLSS), which is used during spacewalks to keep astronauts safe, healthy and comfortable. The PLSS requires ultra-high performance air filtration to eliminate toxic chemicals such as ammonia and formaldehyde. “We are excited for the opportunity to work with NASA to send our Colorfil technology into space!” said Serionix president James Langer. “What’s truly exciting, however, is how the funding will indirectly support the launch of consumer products using the same core technology,” said Langer. “Consumers today have almost no visibility on what filters actually do for them – making purchasing decisions difficult, and making it nearly impossible to determine when it’s time for replacement. With Colorfil, we are looking to change that.” The first phase of Serionix’s project with the NASA SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) program began in June 2016, and overlapped with the successful beta launch
